Vinicius' contract with Real expires in June 2027. Negotiations for a new contract were launched in January 2025 but stalled as the two sides failed to find common ground.
Real Madrid are understood to have offered a new salary, increasing from 18 million euros to around 20 million euros after tax per year. This figure has been rejected by Vinicius. When asked to give a specific figure, the Brazilian's representatives hope that it will be a historic contract, among the highest ever, with a salary package of up to 30 million euros per season.
Real did not agree to the proposal, and did not hold new negotiations until late last month, when Vinicius' future was discussed again in a conversation between the player and Real President Florentino Perez.
According to The Athletic, after the 2-1 victory in El Clasico on October 26, Vinicius went to meet Perez to apologize for his poor behavior. When he was substituted in the 72nd minute, the Brazilian star reacted angrily to coach Xabi Alonso, then shouted: "It's always me. I better go. I'm going."
Real's board of directors were reportedly unhappy with Vinicius's actions in a match watched by the whole world . Therefore, he took the initiative to express his regret. And in an open conversation, Vinicius' future was discussed. Perez was surprised when Vinicius declared that "renewing the contract is not the best option at the moment, when the relationship with Alonso is increasingly tense".
Vinicius was already concerned about his place in the team when Alonso was appointed. Those worries have been justified, with the midfielder having played just five full 90 minutes in Real’s 17 games in all competitions this season. He has also come off the bench four times, including in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Elche.
Real are now in a dilemma, with Alonso making positive changes on one side and Perez's favourite star on the other. They just hope that the relationship between the two will warm up, prompting the reopening of contract negotiations.
