VinUni University has just become the first university in Vietnam to be honored with the ISCN Excellence Awards 2023 for the project “Initiative to develop and provide accessible smart healthcare solutions on a global scale”. This is an international award for sustainable development presented by the ISCN (International Sustainable Campus Network).

“Initiative to develop and provide accessible smart healthcare solutions on a global scale” is a collaboration between VinUni and the University of Illinois Urbana - Champaign (UIUC, USA) to fund ten collaborative research projects to conduct research in the fields of data science , artificial intelligence, biosensors, informatics and applications in smart healthcare.
Digital solutions to enhance the sustainability of health systems, reduce the burden on public health care systems, and contribute to improving the quality of life for communities around the world.
The total investment of the VinUni–Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC) for the projects is 13.5 million USD, mainly providing solutions to monitor and improve health for people around the world. The project will also provide training costs for 50 PhDs, 50 masters and hundreds of research assistants at both VinUni and UIUC.
VAIPE provides a mobile platform that allows collection, management, analysis of personal health data, and automatic drug identification from pill images.
One of the project’s outstanding products is “VAIPE: Smart healthcare monitoring and support system for Vietnamese people”. The project is funded by VinIF Foundation and developed by VISHC Center and partners at BKAI Center, Hanoi University of Science and Technology. The solution provides a mobile platform that allows the collection, management, and analysis of health data of individuals.
For example, medication habits, heart rate, blood pressure, height, weight and other important health indicators will be collected via smartphones. From there, the analysis solution aims to provide recommendations on safe medication use, warnings about taking the wrong medication, taking medication without a prescription and early diagnosis of diseases.
Sharing about the project's goals, Dr. Pham Huy Hieu, Deputy Director of the VinUni–Illinois Smart Health Center (VISHC), co-director of the project, said: “ Our research projects focus on solving urgent and large-scale medical challenges.
We connect local and international experts in many fields to develop digital health solutions that are more affordable, accessible and easy to use. This is how we popularize and bring the value of technology to everyone, regardless of where they come from, their family background, or their educational background .”
VinUni students participate in the project "Wastewater Epidemiological Surveillance in Vietnam" - one of the projects invested by VISHC.
