Competition format
Apart from the first official participation of host country Germany, the Euro 2024 qualifiers will have a similar format to the Euro 2020 qualifiers with the aim of selecting the remaining 23 teams for the finals.
In the first qualifying round, 54 teams are divided into 10 groups, including 6 groups of 5 teams and 4 groups of 6 teams.
According to the tournament's regulations, the four teams that make it to the 2022-2023 UEFA Nations League finals (including Croatia, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy) will be placed in groups of five teams so that these teams can rest from the Euro 2024 qualifying matches and compete in the UEFA Nations League finals next June.
The teams will compete in a round-robin format to determine the 10 group winners and 10 group runners-up who will qualify for the Euro 2024 finals in Germany.
In the play-off round, 12 teams will participate based on their performance in the UEFA Nations League, divided into 3 groups of 4 teams. Each group consists of 2 semi-finals and 1 final. The winners of the final will qualify for the Euro 2024 finals.
