This is an annual event organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in coordination with ministries, branches and localities to create opportunities for the young generation of overseas Vietnamese to learn about their roots and connect with their homeland.
Attending the opening ceremony were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Le Thi Thu Hang; Colonel Nguyen The Manh, Deputy Director of the Propaganda Department, General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army, and representatives of relevant ministries, departments and branches. In particular, the opening ceremony was attended by 120 outstanding overseas Vietnamese youth returning from 28 countries and territories around the world.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang emphasized that “Humans have ancestors, like trees have roots, like rivers have sources” is a precious tradition of generations of Vietnamese people, no matter where they live on this earth. Returning to the homeland is always a sacred feeling, a burning desire of every Vietnamese citizen. Responding to this wish of the Vietnamese community abroad, especially the younger generations, since 2004, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese has organized the Summer Camp program for Vietnamese youth and students studying and living abroad. This program aims to create more opportunities for young generations to connect with their homeland, experience and enrich their cultural heritage, and is also an opportunity for young generations of Vietnamese people around the world to have the opportunity to interact and connect with each other, thereby having the opportunity to understand more about their fellow countrymen around the world.
On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang warmly welcomed 120 overseas Vietnamese youth and students from 28 countries and territories around the world who attended the Vietnam Summer Camp 2024 "A Country Full of Joy" organized by the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in coordination with central and local agencies.
According to Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, the 2024 Vietnam Summer Camp with the theme "A Country Full of Joy" is a special program to respond to and celebrate major national holidays such as the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Capital, the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification, so this year's Summer Camp will depart from Hanoi and end in Ho Chi Minh City. The children will travel together along the length of the country to see how beautiful their homeland is. Familiar landmarks such as Hoan Kiem Lake, Hue Imperial City, Hoi An Ancient Town and the rich cuisine of each region of the Summer Camp will enrich their knowledge and I believe that they will love their country even more. In addition, the children will visit famous landmarks that mark the country's history such as the Presidential Palace Relic Site, Sen Village Relic Site, Kim Lien, Reunification Palace, etc.
In particular, the tradition of drinking water remembers its source, showing gratitude to ancestors and national heroes such as: Offering incense to the National Ancestor Lac Long Quan, offering incense to commemorate heroic martyrs at Truong Son Cemetery... from which the children will be more proud of the heroic history of the nation and grateful to the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their blood and bones so that we can have a peaceful life like today.
Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang believes that through the useful and practical activities of the Summer Camp, Vietnamese youth and students abroad will promote patriotism, national pride and self-respect, maintain close relationships with their homeland and country, and work together with domestic youth to strive for an independent, democratic, unified and powerful Vietnam with a position and role in the region and the world. At the same time, the Summer Camp will open up opportunities to exchange with new friends in Hanoi, Ha Tinh, Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, becoming a "big circle" uniting Vietnamese youth at home with Vietnamese youth abroad around the world.
