A circle of kindness in everyday life

Doing good deeds is like drawing a circle. The more people join hands and continue the cycle, the wider and more far that circle expands...

An ordinary girl doing good deeds in everyday life.

I've known Nữ since 2024 through a writing group. Although she started writing later than me and many other writers, she progressed very quickly and won many awards. People often know her by her pen name, Ngọc Nữ.

With her article "Stars Following in the Footsteps of the Women's Electricity Saving Competition, " she received an honorable mention in the "Making Electricity Saving a Habit" contest organized by Thanh Nien Newspaper in 2024. Following this, she won numerous other writing awards and became a regular contributor to many newspapers nationwide.

Every morning, Ngoc Nu diligently wakes up early to practice her beautiful handwriting. Taking care of her children, working, and dedicating time to her passion, she completes each task with utmost dedication and discipline. Like many other writers, I secretly admire her. As I followed Ngoc Nu's Facebook page more and chatted with her more, my admiration for her grew even stronger.

Ngoc Nu is a preschool teacher with an average income; in fact, I think she must be very resourceful to manage both her child and herself. So why would she help others?

Talking to Nu on a summer afternoon in early May, my heart felt as if good seeds had been sown and my soul had been nourished by cool, refreshing water.

Nữ recounted that when she was little, her parents weren't wealthy; they only had enough to eat, but whenever they saw someone worse off than themselves, they would reach out to help. Sometimes they would give someone a handful of rice, other times they would invite them to a decent meal, or sometimes they would give them a raincoat. Nữ's parents couldn't afford to do grand things, but in every small act, they showed warmth and love for those around them. Her father often said, "My child, remember, the fortunate should help the unfortunate. The unfortunate should help the even more unfortunate."

The honesty and kindness of her parents gradually seeped into Nu and her sisters. Whenever she had money, a piece of bread, or saw an opportunity to help someone, Nu would not hesitate.

Initially, Ngoc Nu contributed small amounts of money, according to her means, whenever she saw difficult circumstances in various groups. She believed that a small act, along with many other small acts, would bring good to those less fortunate, rather than knowing about the situation and doing nothing. Later, there were cases that Ngoc Nu felt so sorry for that she personally went to verify the situation and used her personal reputation to appeal on Facebook for additional support.

One day, she realized that sometimes urgent cases meant that donations couldn't be collected in time, and she missed the opportunity to help. Therefore, Ngoc Nu and her friend planned to create a "Charity Grocery Store," raising funds through sales.

It's impossible to count how many children Nữ has helped to go to school, receive medical treatment, have enough to eat, and even save lives. More than once, she witnessed poor patient families sobbing and exclaiming, "My child is alive, Nữ!", upon receiving her help. Miracles are not far away; they are born from the compassion of each and every person.

In 2017, she and her friends also organized two programs for 135 elderly people without family support and 6 orphaned children at Lam Quang Pagoda, and the "For a Bright Future" program for disadvantaged students at Lai Uyen Secondary School (Bau Bang district, Binh Duong province).

Every year, she and other philanthropists visit more than 50 orphaned children at Phap Tan Pagoda in Long An province. They also offer small acts of kindness, such as donating a small portion to the "hanging porridge" stall or providing a warm meal for the poor they happen to encounter.

In this way, the love and warmth, sown with the strength of an ordinary girl living an ordinary life, are spread to the world and radiate to those around her.

Is there anything inside that " nothing" ?

While talking to Ngoc Nu, I kept thinking about the book titled "In Nothingness, Is There Nothing?" by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh.

In 2017, while Ngoc Nu was tirelessly helping hundreds of people in need, she herself was struggling with her own life. Looking at Ngoc Nu at that time, no one would have guessed that she was carrying boxes of donated goods weighing nearly 20 kg, with bags of various sizes piled around her motorbike, all while pregnant. As a single mother, facing heartbreak in love, she never talked about those imperfections. Her Facebook page was always a beacon of light, a warm ray of sunshine, inspiring friends and acquaintances to live better lives.

In 2018, her son became seriously ill and had to be hospitalized. The mother and son were struggling financially . In the evenings, Nữ's mother had to work part-time at a pho restaurant to earn extra money to help pay for her grandson's medication.

In 2023, Ngoc Nu was suspected of having throat cancer. A heavy health diagnosis hung over her head for six months, while her parents were elderly and her child was too young. It was during her most desperate times that her fellow volunteers and colleagues who had followed her journey stood by her, supporting her through it. Ngoc Nu said that at that time, she experienced a touching feeling: "Thank you for your help!" And they replied, "It's nothing!"

It turns out that when you start participating in a circle of kindness, it's not just that the circle will grow larger and more people will receive support, but each person within that circle will also receive love in return.

"We sow love, we reap happiness."

In 2024, Ngoc Nu began writing. Among many topics, she chose to write about humanistic themes. Her words, full of love and kindness, have made her a regular contributor to the "Beautiful and Not So Beautiful" column of Song Lam Nghe An Newspaper and the "Marriage and Family" column of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper .

Through the power of her pen, Ngoc Nu continues to spread goodness in life. She has also helped many people get to know and connect with kind people in real life.

And 2024 also marks the beginning of a happy life for Ngoc Nu. She has found her soulmate. Now she no longer has to walk alone; she has a life partner who loves and cherishes her kind heart.

So that's it, life always involves "giving" and "receiving," whether we calculate it or not. When each person selflessly sows good seeds into the world, wonderful things will blossom from their own compassion.
