On the evening of March 15th, Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep, deputy director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Health , stated that this latest food poisoning incident after eating chicken rice at Tram Anh restaurant is similar to the 2022 food poisoning case at a school in Nha Trang City, which resulted in over 600 students and teachers being hospitalized.
Both cases presented with symptoms such as diarrhea, high fever, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Initial findings indicated the infection was caused by Salmonella group bacteria through rapid stool cultures of patients at Vinmec Nha Trang General Hospital.
"The disease progressed rapidly. However, this time there were no critical cases, and medical facilities coordinated quickly in treatment. It is expected that the number of hospitalizations will decrease after today because it has been 5 days since customers ate at the chicken rice restaurant," Mr. Hiep stated.
According to Mr. Hiep, all hospitalized patients had stool and blood samples taken for culture and antibiotic sensitivity testing. To date, only two patients at Vinmec Nha Trang General Hospital have had Salmonella bacteria detected and antibiotic sensitivity tests completed.
However, we still need to wait for the results from other patients and samples of chicken, water, etc., from the Pasteur Institute before we can clearly determine the cause of the poisoning.
"Currently, there are many small-scale establishments and food stalls in the province. In the near future, we will direct a comprehensive review and inspection of ready-to-eat processed foods, fast food, etc.," Mr. Hiep informed.
Dr. Tran Phuong Thao, deputy executive director of the 22-12 Hospital, said the hospital is currently treating pediatric patients, tourist groups, and their families. Currently, all patients are recovering and progressing well.
"When symptoms suggestive of food poisoning such as vomiting, diarrhea, persistent high fever, etc., appear, patients should not self-medicate or treat themselves at home, but should immediately go to a medical facility for examination and treatment."
"When traveling , when choosing restaurants, always make sure to eat cooked food and drink boiled water. Avoid eating and drinking haphazardly, such as at the beach or street stalls, and instead choose hygienic establishments with food safety certificates and clean water sources," Dr. Thao shared.
