On the morning of September 2nd, dozens of tourist vehicles lined the road leading to the orchards growing red flowering trees (in Van Hoa commune). Families and groups of tourists eagerly checked in at the red flowering gardens, combining it with meals and picnics.

Every year, from June to July in the lunar calendar, the orchards of red berries (also known as mulberry trees, wild berries, etc.) enter their peak ripening season.

This is a type of forest tree often associated with the lives of people in mountainous areas and is considered a symbol of prosperity.

The red fruit will change color from green, then dark purple before ripening to a vibrant red. Especially from September onwards, the red fruit ripens all at once, displaying a beautiful red color.

In Van Hoa commune, many households have transformed their red oleander gardens into tourist attractions, such as the household of Mr. Nguyen Van Binh (66 years old), who has nearly 80 trees of various sizes. Some of the large trees require two people to embrace and are nearly 50 years old, while the smaller ones were planted about 6-7 years ago.

"These red trees were brought back from the forest by my brothers and me because we thought they were beautiful. This type of tree suits the climate and soil here, so it grows very quickly."

After a while, visitors started coming to see the trees. During the September 2nd holiday, all the red fruits in my garden ripened, this is the time when the red fruits are at their most beautiful, plump and full. From August 30th until now, my family has welcomed hundreds of visitors every day," Mr. Binh said.

Mr. Binh also proudly stated that his red fruit orchard was recognized by the former Son Hoa District People's Committee as a model new rural orchard in 2024. After the tourists have left towards the end of the season, he will harvest the remaining fruit and sell it for about 20,000 VND/kg or process it into red wine…

Besides Mr. Binh, dozens of households here not only benefited from a bountiful harvest of red berries but also from the influx of tourists, with many people coming to visit. The entrance fee to each red berry garden ranges from 15,000 to 20,000 VND per person.

Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thao (a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City) said she was fascinated by these red fruits after seeing them in pictures. Wanting to see them firsthand and experience their sour taste, she and her family came here.

"The owner of the orchard is very friendly. What I liked most was the feeling of taking photos with the red trees full of fruit, clustered from the base to the top, and then getting to eat the red fruit right in the orchard," said Thao.
