Today (August 21), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, in coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, held a meeting to encourage the Vietnamese Paralympic team before their departure to participate in the Paris Paralympic Games in France from August 28 to September 8.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee met with and encouraged the Ho Chi Minh City athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The Vietnamese Paralympic team will participate in the Paris Paralympic Games with 14 members, led by Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education Nguyen Hong Minh. The team includes 7 athletes: Le Van Cong, Nguyen Binh An, Dang Thi Linh Phuong, Chau Hoang Tuyet Loan (weightlifting); Do Thanh Hai, Le Tien Dat (swimming); and Pham Nguyen Khanh Minh (athletics).
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, sent heartfelt words of encouragement to the athletes and coaches from Ho Chi Minh City participating in the Paris Paralympic Games.
Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports, said that Ho Chi Minh City is honored to contribute all its coaches and athletes to the delegation participating in the Games and has made thorough preparations with high determination. The success of the athletes is not only a source of pride for themselves but also an honor and source of pride for Vietnamese sports and Ho Chi Minh City sports. "Currently, the health and spirits of the athletes are very good, and they are ready to compete. The Paris Paralympic Games 2024 will be a great opportunity for Vietnamese athletes to demonstrate their extraordinary willpower and determination to overcome their own obstacles, confidently rise above themselves, and at the same time help them affirm their desire to win, integrate, and contribute to national sports," Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan expressed.
Representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee presented gifts to encourage athletes and coaches of the Vietnamese Paralympic team participating in the Paris Paralympic Games.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, said: "I hope that the sweat that the athletes have shed on the field is the clearest evidence of their tireless efforts. The achievements in Paris are very important, but they cannot be as important as our unity, cooperation, and solidarity in completing the task well. The achievements that you have made in the past have been and continue to be a great inspiration to me, to the youth of the city and the whole country."
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee awarded each athlete and coach of the Vietnamese Paralympic team a prize of 30 million VND and agreed on a policy of immediate bonuses from social mobilization funds at 300 million VND (for gold medals), 200 million VND (for silver medals), and 100 million VND (for bronze medals). Athletes reaching the finals (for sports with qualifying rounds) will receive a bonus of 50 million VND. This is a strong encouragement for athletes and coaches to strive to bring glory to the country. One day earlier, at the Ho Chi Minh City National Training Center, the send-off ceremony for the Vietnamese Paralympic team took place, with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Sports and Physical Education, etc.

The Vietnamese Paralympic team will depart for France on August 23rd. Afterward, athletes in each event will undergo disability assessments and have a few days of training to familiarize themselves with the competition before officially competing.
