Mai Hich commune builds advanced new rural areas

With the consensus of the people and the determination of the entire political system, in January 2020, Mai Hich commune (Mai Chau) received the new rural standards (NTM). To continue improving the quality of people's lives, competing to build the homeland, and developing the economy and society sustainably, the Party Committee, government and people in the commune continue to implement plans and solutions, making efforts to complete the advanced NTM criteria.

The traffic road from the center of Mai Hich commune (Mai Chau) to Hich 2 hamlet is paved with clean and beautiful concrete.

Comrade Ha Van Bong, Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: "To consolidate and improve the quality of the achieved criteria, especially the criteria on traffic, irrigation, income, poverty rate, environment, towards building advanced new rural areas, the commune has set out a plan, mobilized people's strength, focused on completing infrastructure, promoting production, converting crops and livestock, improving the material and spiritual life of the people. In addition, promoting the responsibility of the people in protecting the environment, landscape, maintaining security and order in the area".

Identifying income as the prerequisite criterion and foundation for building other criteria, the Party Committee and the government of Mai Hich commune directed people to promote production, convert crops, and diversify occupations. The whole commune maintained the cultivation of 191 hectares of rice, with a yield of 6 tons/ha; 150 hectares of corn, with a yield of 4 tons/ha; 130 hectares of various vegetables, with an area that met and exceeded the annual plan; oriented to expand organic vegetable cultivation, including green squash, peanuts, chili peppers, etc. Raising 851 buffaloes and cows; 1,430 pigs; 25,000 poultry. In addition to traditional crops and livestock, the commune cultivates 5 hectares of water surface for green dam fish, with an output of about 250 tons/year, a selling price of 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, and stable output. Many households have converted ineffective crops to high-yield chili peppers, which have been purchased by businesses at stable prices for many years.

Along with agricultural development, small-scale industries and services such as construction material production, garment, and transportation services have developed steadily, creating jobs for workers. The whole commune has 11 households providing community tourism services, mainly in Hich 1, Hich 2, and Cha Lang hamlets, with each homestay accommodating 25-30 guests; 2 high-class resorts with thorough investment are Mai Chau Valey Retreat in Hai Son hamlet and Mai Son De Mai Hich in Hich 2 hamlet. In addition to accommodation and food services, activities such as walking, mountain climbing, cave exploration, cycling around mountain passes, boating, wading through streams to catch fish, etc. bring many interesting experiences to tourists, especially foreign visitors.

In an effort to maintain and improve the quality of traffic criteria, the commune mobilized capital sources to upgrade the rural traffic infrastructure system. 100% of roads from the commune center to the district road were concreted and asphalted; 100% of village and inter-village roads were hardened; 70% of alley roads were concreted; 63.6% of intra-field roads were hardened.

Accompanying the people to develop the economy , the commune has implemented credit programs and preferential loans to support people to reduce poverty and create jobs right in the locality. Currently, the total loan capital entrusted through the commune's organizations has reached over 62 billion VND, increasing year by year, of which, the loan capital from the Social Policy Bank is 28.3 billion VND, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development is 33.7 billion VND. From the loan capital, people invest in economic models, apply science and technology, build clean water works, create jobs, and people's lives are increasingly improved. The rate of households using clean water is 100%, the rate of people participating in health insurance is 91%; the rate of poor households is 11%, the average income per capita is 51 million VND/year. The commune currently meets 13/19 advanced NTM criteria.

In the hamlets of Hich 1, Hich 2, Hai Son... the rural appearance changes every day, with charming landscapes and traditional stilt houses. People actively respond to activities: beautifying village roads and alleys, clearing corridors, repairing cultural houses, renovating canals and ditches, building sanitary drainage systems, planting trees in home gardens, and flower rows along both sides of the road, creating a clean and beautiful landscape, a bright appearance for residential areas, and developing in depth and sustainably.

Comrade Ha Van Bong, Chairman of Mai Hich Commune People's Committee added: "To reach the goal of advanced NTM, in the coming time, the commune will continue to promote production, increase income for people, focus on vocational training for workers, solve employment, make the most of resources to improve the quality of each criterion in a sustainable direction. Strengthen and build a strong political system, promote the role of each individual in socio-economic development".
