Coach Alonso confirmed leaving Leverkusen.

"This week, the club and I have agreed that the remaining two matches will be my last as Bayer Leverkusen coach," Alonso said at a press conference on the evening of May 9. "Now is the right time to announce it. We want to say goodbye in a complete way. This morning I informed the players and the coaching staff. This is definitely a moment of mixed emotions."

Alonso did not reveal his next destination, but according to many sources, he will take over the hot seat at Real Madrid to replace Carlo Ancelotti after this season ends. The Athletic confirmed that Alonso has agreed to lead Real Madrid. This deal will be announced soon in the near future.

"It's not the time to talk about the future," Alonso added. "But I'm really grateful to everyone, the fans, the club members and especially the players. We have the right to be proud of having put Leverkusen on the right track."

Under Alonso's leadership, Leverkusen has grown to become one of the most attractive and effective teams in Europe. Not only competing with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, Leverkusen has also advanced deep into the continental arena.

The Spanish strategist created a historic season with Leverkusen when he helped the team win the Bundesliga unbeaten and win the domestic double.

Alonso's departure will leave a huge void at Leverkusen, not only tactically but also mentally. He built a young, disciplined, attacking team, and turned Leverkusen into a real force in Germany.
