On June 9, Ho Chi Minh City Police said that through the investigation and prosecution of the case of a man driving a three-wheeled vehicle who dumped thousands of boxes of medicine and functional foods onto an empty lot in Binh Chanh district, the police agency is taking statements from many related people to determine the owner of the goods.
Through investigation, the police worked with Mr. TVC (34 years old, residing in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City).
Mr. C. stated that on May 30, he was hired by someone to transport the goods to TML (32 years old, residing in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) for 6.9 million VND.
The police summoned and worked with TML, who confessed that he had agreed with a man named S. to burn and destroy all of the above goods for 7 million VND.
However, after receiving about 10 boxes of goods from Mr. TVC, L. checked and discovered that inside were functional foods. Seeing that the goods were still in their original packaging, he did not burn them but brought them home for storage. As for the goods burned at the scene, it is suspected that TML had previously destroyed a part of them.
From TML's testimony, the police continued to invite NPS (36 years old, residing in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City), who is believed to be the owner of the goods.
Mr. S. stated that he is the director of a company in District 12, specializing in the business of functional foods, purchasing functional foods from many domestic units, then repackaging them to sell on e-commerce platforms such as Lazada and Shopee.
Recently, after watching the news and seeing the authorities inspect and seize a number of batches of functional foods with signs of violations, Mr. S. suspected that his batch might be on that list, so he intended to destroy it.
Without going through the waste treatment unit according to regulations, Mr. S. contacted L. to destroy by burning all 200 products for 7 million VND.
The products discovered at the scene carry many different brands such as Silymarin, Pharvita plus, Jollivit, Maxglu 1500, Arginin, Homramin Ginseng... These are all health supplements, advertised for use by children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with underlying medical conditions.
Information on the packaging shows that most of the products are still within their expiry date, even extending to 2027-2028. Some are from Hanoi , Thanh Hoa and the northern provinces, many labels advertise extracts from precious ingredients such as shark cartilage, bird's nest, moringa, deer antler, ginseng... and even imported ingredients from the United States.
The police are collecting and sealing all the goods for appraisal, while focusing on consolidating records and handling them according to the law./.
