Delivering a speech reviewing the tradition, Major General Truong Manh Dung, Commander of Military Region 1, affirmed that, born from the revolutionary struggle movement of the masses, through difficult but heroic stages, the Armed Forces of Military Region 1 always demonstrated loyalty, solidarity, initiative, creativity, determination to overcome hardships, sacrifices, self-reliance, self-strengthening, striving to excellently complete all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people, worthy of Uncle Ho's praise: "The revolution was successful thanks to Viet Bac, then the resistance will be victorious thanks to Viet Bac".

Over the past 80 years, under the leadership of the Party and State, directly by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, with the coordination and support of central departments, ministries, branches, agencies, units, Party committees, authorities and people of all ethnic groups in the area, the Military Region has grown and developed day by day.

The officers and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Military Region 1 will continue to promote tradition, unite as one, constantly develop, always be a loyal and trustworthy political and fighting force of the Party, State and people; thoroughly grasp the military and national defense guidelines, and protect the Fatherland in the new situation; lead the successful implementation of the Party's Resolutions, the Resolution of the 16th Military Region 1 Party Congress, the Resolution of the 12th Military Party Congress; always be ready to fight and sacrifice to firmly protect the achievements of the revolution, protect the Party, State, people, protect the socialist regime and the cause of national renewal.

The achievements of the past 80 years are not only invaluable assets for the armed forces of Military Region I to move forward steadily, but also contribute practically to building Viet Bac - Military Region I to become increasingly prosperous in economy, stable in politics, strong in national defense and security, developing culture and society, successfully carrying out the task of building and firmly protecting the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

The General Secretary emphasized that entering a new revolutionary stage, a stage of promoting the country's industrialization and modernization, building a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern people's armed forces to best serve the goal of developing a rich, powerful, prosperous, civilized, and happy country... the tasks of Military Region I are even more difficult and glorious.

Building a comprehensively strong armed force of Military Region 1, taking strong political building as the foundation; focusing on thoroughly grasping and successfully implementing the Resolution of the Military Region 1 Party Congress, the Resolution of the 12th Military Party Congress and the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party; the conclusions and regulations of the Central Executive Committee and the Central Military Commission on the work of building and rectifying the Party and the political system.

The General Secretary pointed out that it is necessary to regularly and thoroughly grasp the Party's military-defense viewpoints and guidelines, grasp the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, especially the major orientations on defense and military work as approved by the 13th National Party Congress and the contents mentioned in the draft Political Report submitted to the 14th National Party Congress. Focus on building a strong, compact, revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern military region armed force, improving its overall strength, level, and combat capability.

It is necessary to focus on improving the command and combat skills of leaders and commanders at all levels; pay attention to improving the physical strength and health of soldiers to be capable of fighting in all terrains and weather conditions... of the Military Region. Continue to train and practice to improve the level and ability to command and coordinate combat operations of troops and arms; improve the ability to maneuver, apply tactics and combat techniques suitable to the Military Region's terrain and Vietnamese military art. Ensure good logistics and technical reserves for combat readiness. Manage, exploit and use good, durable, safe, economical and traffic-safe technical equipment. Take good care of soldiers' lives, ensure good disease prevention and control; actively promote increased production and practice thrift.

The General Secretary requested Military Region 1 to proactively coordinate closely with other forces in implementing foreign policy, building a peaceful and friendly border; effectively perform the function of a "working army" and do a good job of propaganda and mobilizing the people; closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities and people to actively participate in economic, cultural and social development, effectively carry out the movement "Military Region armed forces join hands to build new rural areas"; link infrastructure development with improving people's lives; participate in implementing sustainable poverty reduction programs...; effectively implement economic development projects combined with national defense and people's livelihood.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary To Lam awarded the Ho Chi Minh Order to the Armed Forces of Military Region 1 for their long tradition, great contributions, and exceptional excellence in the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
