Building a foundation for sustainable cooperation in medicine in Southeast Asia

On November 15, in Da Nang city, the 23rd Conference of the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies (AFES 2025) took place with the theme: Endocrine Diseases, Diabetes, Metabolic Disorders and Digital Technology.

The conference was organized by the Vietnam Association of Endocrinology and Diabetes (VADE) in collaboration with the Federation of Southeast Asian Endocrine Societies (AFES), attracting more than 500 international delegates and more than 1,200 domestic delegates.

AFES 2025 is organized with the aim of enhancing regional cooperation, sharing knowledge and updating the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment and management of endocrine-metabolic diseases, while promoting the application of digital technology in modern medicine.

Thereby, the program focuses on exploiting the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT) and Cloud Computing to improve the efficiency of management, prevention and patient healthcare.

In addition, there are many outstanding reports on some new drugs to treat diabetes and obesity; new techniques, rare clinical cases such as: oral thyroid surgery, Gitelman syndrome, Müllerian duct persistence syndrome, ectopic ACTH-secreting tumors...

According to statistics from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), there are currently more than 589 million adults in the world living with diabetes, and this number is expected to increase to 853 million people by 2050.

In Vietnam, the prevalence of diabetes and metabolic disorders has tripled over the past 20 years, with an estimated 5.7 million adults living with the disease, nearly half of whom are undiagnosed. At the same time, thyroid disease, obesity, dyslipidemia and metabolic syndrome are increasingly prevalent, placing a heavy burden on the health system and society.

The program has the participation of domestic and international delegates.

In the coming time, the Vietnam Endocrine and Diabetes Association aims to continue expanding its international cooperation network, building multi-center research programs, and developing a digital medical data platform on endocrine-diabetic diseases in Vietnam.

At the same time, the Association will focus on continuous training for young medical staff, promoting community communication on prevention and early detection of endocrine diseases, aiming at the goal of effective disease control and minimizing chronic complications in the future.

The conference also hopes to build a foundation for sustainable cooperation between countries in the Southeast Asian region, affirming Vietnam's pioneering role in the field of Endocrinology - Diabetes, contributing to improving health and quality of life for the community in the era of digital transformation of medicine.
