According to initial information, at about 2:40 a.m. on the same day, the passenger bus with license plate 94B-004.68, driven by driver NTAM (born in 1987, residing in Gia Rai ward, Ca Mau province), was traveling from the West to Ho Chi Minh City. When reaching Km37+600, near Tan An intersection, in Khanh Hau ward, Tay Ninh province, passengers detected an unusual burning smell and reported it to the driver.
The driver immediately pulled the car into the emergency lane to check and discovered a fire in the engine compartment on the driver’s side. He quickly asked the 10 passengers to get off the car to ensure safety. The driver and the people tried to put out the fire with available tools but were unsuccessful.
Upon receiving the news, the Traffic Police and the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Police ( Tay Ninh Provincial Police) dispatched two fire trucks and dozens of officers and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire and regulate traffic. About 30 minutes later, the fire was completely extinguished. However, due to the large fire, spreading quickly and generating a lot of smoke, the car was completely burned, leaving only the frame, and some of the passengers' luggage was also burned.
The incident caused the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway to be congested for several hours. At around 8:00 a.m. on November 24, authorities temporarily closed the oncoming lane of the expressway and directed traffic to change direction via National Highway 1A to ensure safety and handle the scene.
Authorities continue to regulate traffic and investigate according to regulations.
