When the image of a new scooter appeared on forums, many people were surprised and thought that the Honda SH 2025 had officially launched. But no, it was the QJMotor SQ16, a model from China with a design so similar to the Honda SH that it is difficult to distinguish at first glance. The scooter market is increasingly crowded, but not every model leaves its own mark. With the SQ16, the prominence comes from... being too similar to a famous model.
From the body, headlights, 16-inch wheel size to the saddle shape, everything immediately reminds people of the Honda SH, a scooter model that is considered a symbol in many Asian countries, including Vietnam. On paper, the QJMotor SQ16 is no less than the Honda SH125. The vehicle is equipped with a 14.7 horsepower engine, slightly more than the SH's 13 horsepower, 12Nm torque, a 7.8-liter fuel tank and a standard 28-liter trunk. The dual-channel ABS braking system is also a significant plus in the popular segment. Notably, the price of the SQ16 is only about 2,600 euros in Europe (about 2,900 USD), nearly half the price of the SH125 when it was first launched.
This is an attractive figure for consumers with limited budgets. But clearly, a car is not only evaluated by parameters or price. What users care about more is the actual experience, long-term durability and after-sales service. Copying designs instead of creating their own identity shows the "shortcut" approach that some Chinese manufacturers still pursue. Although QJMotor has partnered with Italian car manufacturer Benelli and invested heavily in the production line, the fact that the SQ16 borrows almost all of the SH's design language makes it difficult for consumers to trust.
Despite its attractive price, the quality of materials, chassis, suspension and finishing are still big questions. Although the SQ16 has a few more horsepower, it is difficult to replace the stability and durability that has been proven over many years of the Honda SH.
