After finishing the 10th grade English exam, a candidate from Ho Chi Minh City confidently said: 'Not getting 10 is a bit of a waste!'

Many 10th grade candidates in Ho Chi Minh City commented that the English test was within their ability and easy to get a score of 8 or higher, even though some content was updated to match the 2018 General Education Program.

Sharing at the exam site of Trung Vuong High School (District 1), Tran Nguyen Khang and Do Cao Duong, students of Vinschool Central Park Primary, Secondary and High School, commented that the 10th grade English exam was "very easy and quite simple", from the articles, prepositions, verb phrases to the tenses mentioned in the questions. "This year's exam is not as complicated as the ones we reviewed in class. It's a waste not to get 10!", the two male students said in unison.

Both also said their biggest concern right now is tomorrow's math exam, which has many "always difficult" practical questions and "very difficult" geometry questions. As for the literature exam this morning (June 6), Duong is worried that he will get off topic; Khang assessed that he only wrote an average of 2 pages, while many of his roommates wrote 3-5 pages. "In general, English 'carries' the other subjects for us," both added.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Hoang Phat, a student at Hai Ba Trung Secondary School (District 3), is confident that he will get a score of 8 or higher because the "questions are within my ability" with vocabulary and grammar not "at a high level", and normal candidates can still do well. "It only took me about 15-20 minutes to complete the test, including some tricky questions, such as asking about the principles of using s/es with certain words. I was quite hesitant about those parts, but the rest was normal," Phat shared.

For Nguyen Vu Quoc An, a student at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1), the 2025 English exam for grade 10 closely followed the sample exam content of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and was "easier than last year". "I finished the test in about 40 minutes and there were almost no puzzles, so I spent most of my time checking each question. I thought I would definitely get above 8 and if I was lucky, above 9 points," An said.

Bui Anh Thu, who studies at the same school, hopes to get a perfect score in English. Thu also took the KET certificate issued by the Cambridge English Examinations Board (UK) and the female student assessed that this time's exam was easier than the previous time she took the certificate. "There is only one question that I don't understand the meaning of and I hope I don't get it wrong," said the female student who wants to enter Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted.

This year, for the foreign language subject, the exam committee members said that they will evaluate abilities not only based on memorization of grammar and vocabulary, but also on the ability to understand and apply language knowledge in appropriate contexts, especially real-life situations. In the 40 questions, the 10th grade exam in 2025 has 2 new questions about writing appropriate phrases based on the given information.

Tomorrow (June 7), candidates will continue to take the math exam in the morning and the specialized subject exam in the afternoon. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, 76,435 candidates registered for the 2025 exam, with a total enrollment target of 70,070 places, meaning that about 91.7% of candidates will be admitted to public schools. On the other hand, the total enrollment target for private schools is nearly 19,500 places, helping to reduce competitive pressure compared to previous years.
