Pepper exports increased by 58% in value

(Chinhphu.vn) - In April 2025, Vietnam exported 26,590 tons of pepper of all kinds. Compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume increased by only 1.3% but the value increased by 58%.

Pepper exports in the first months of 2025 decreased in volume but increased sharply in value thanks to increased export prices. According to statistics from the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in April 2025, Vietnam exported 26,590 tons of pepper of all kinds; of which, black pepper reached 23,271 tons, white pepper reached 3,319 tons. Total export turnover reached 184.1 million USD, compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume increased by only 1.3% but the value increased by 58.%. The average export price of black pepper in April reached 6,817 USD/ton, white pepper reached 8,596 USD/ton. In particular, the United States remained the largest export market for Vietnamese pepper in April with an export volume of 6,404 tons, an increase of nearly 46% over the previous month.

By the end of April, Vietnam had exported 74,250 tons of pepper of all kinds; of which black pepper reached 63,124 tons and white pepper reached 11,126 tons. Total export turnover reached 510.6 million USD, compared to the same period in 2024, the export volume decreased by 10.6%, but the export turnover increased by 45%. The average export price of black pepper reached 6,749 USD/ton, up 96% and white pepper reached 8,611 USD/ton, up 73.8% over the same period last year.

Vietnam's leading pepper export markets include the United States with an export volume of 16,682 tons, accounting for 22.5% but still down 26.7% over the same period; India ranked second with 5,905 tons, up 6.4%. Pepper exports to the UAE reached 4,981 tons, up 42.2% over the same period; the German market imported 4,952 tons, down 9.7%; China imported 3,371 tons, up 94.4% over the same period. The leading white pepper export markets are China, Germany, the United States, etc.

On the other hand, in April 2025, Vietnam imported 5,688 tons of pepper of all kinds, with a total import turnover of 36.7 million USD; compared to the previous month, the import volume increased by 15.1% and the turnover increased by 27.2%. The import volume this month is also close to the highest import record ever in May 2021, which was 5,747 tons.

Brazil continues to be the main pepper supplier to Vietnam with 3,792 tons, up 23.9% over the previous month, accounting for 66.7%. Next is Cambodia with 1,171 tons, up 127.8%.

By the end of April, Vietnam had imported 15,374 tons of pepper of all kinds, including 11,750 tons of black pepper and 3,624 tons of white pepper; import turnover reached 88.3 million USD. Compared to the same period in 2024, import volume increased by 25.3% and turnover increased by 104.8%.
