According to the General Statistics Office, in 2023, the total import and export turnover of goods is estimated at 683 billion USD, down 6.6% over the previous year, of which exports decreased by 4.4% and imports decreased by 8.9%.
Despite many business difficulties, many import-export enterprises in Hanoi said they still try to maintain high 2024 Tet bonuses to encourage employees.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - Director of Viet Industrial Materials and Trading Joint Stock Company shared: "The past year 2023 was an extremely difficult year for import and export enterprises. The reason is that demand for goods has decreased significantly, output is slow, orders cannot be sold, or there are no orders,... Therefore, most businesses do not make a profit, just enough to maintain".
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan also revealed that in 2023, the company's revenue also decreased by 1/3 compared to 2022, and profits decreased by half. However, the company still tried its best to give high Tet bonuses to employees with the hope that they would have a warm and prosperous Tet.
Import and export decline, Tet bonuses in many businesses are still high - Photo 2.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan - Director of Viet Industrial Materials and Trading Joint Stock Company said: "Although this year's Tet bonus has decreased by 20% compared to last year, we still try to maintain a high bonus level for employees to have a full Tet (average of 1-3 months salary),...". Emphasizing this further, Mr. Tuan said: "We are tightening other costs, not reducing employee benefits. Although this year's Tet bonus has been reduced by 20% compared to last year, we still try to maintain a high bonus level for employees to have a full Tet (on average from 3-6 months of salary, some people get the highest bonus of up to 12 months of salary) and additional business salary".
Regarding the Tet bonus, Ms. Phung Thi Lien - Head of Sales of a large Logistics company in Hanoi said that in general, the company's business results this year also decreased compared to last year, following the general recession. However, the company's management also tried to give employees the 13th month salary (equal to one month's salary) and the same business results bonus, without cutting any part.
Ms. Lien also added that although the business situation is facing many difficulties, the workers' lives are still taken care of by the company's union, and salary, bonus, travel , etc. are still fully organized. Workers can still fully celebrate Tet.
Many businesses exporting fiber in 2023 are slow, lacking orders,... revenue and profit are decreasing. Illustrative photo.
A representative of LHD Global Logistics Joint Stock Company said that the fiber export industry in 2023 was heavily affected by fluctuations in the world economy and politics , unstable oil prices, power shortages, etc. Businesses lacked orders, delayed orders, revenue and profits decreased, some orders were almost unprofitable, and they were just trying to "break even".
In such a difficult situation, businesses have sought every solution to ensure that they still have Tet bonuses for their employees. However, this year's Tet bonus is down about 30% compared to last year.
Most import and export businesses are looking for solutions to overcome difficulties such as: reducing fixed costs, current costs, avoiding losses,... instead of cutting down on employees' legitimate benefits, especially Tet bonuses.
In addition, many other welfare activities are also organized by labor unions in coordination with businesses such as Tet markets, supporting train/bus tickets for workers to return home for Tet, lucky draws for valuable gifts, etc. It can be seen that this is one of the great efforts of businesses in ensuring the lives of workers during the 2024 Tet holiday.
