Israel-Hamas conflict: Tel Aviv seeks new ceasefire; Egypt pressured to do so

On December 7, Tel Aviv showed signs of wanting to continue the hostage exchange agreement in exchange for a ceasefire and the return of Palestinian prisoners.

Israel recently discussed the proposal with Egypt as an intermediary, with Tel Aviv demanding that Hamas return female soldiers, the elderly and the wounded.

In return, Israel would release sick and elderly prisoners, even those convicted of injuring Israelis.

In another development, on December 6, Egypt expressed concern about the gathering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip at the border with the country, in the context of the US and Israel wanting to resettle Palestinians in Egyptian territory. Accordingly, Cairo rejected this intention and considered it a violation of international law.

Furthermore, Egypt has threatened to withdraw from the 1979 peace agreement with Israel if Cairo is forced to accept Palestinians into Egyptian territory.
