Yen Binh district is gradually affirming its strategy of sustainable forestry economic development, linking green growth with environmental protection. With a total area of over 42,276 hectares of forest (including 36,712 hectares of production forest and 5,564 hectares of natural forest), maintaining a stable forest cover rate of 54.8%.
In recent years, Yen Binh has promoted forest development according to international FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards, opening up great opportunities to bring forest products to demanding markets such as the EU, the US, Japan, etc. Up to now, the whole district has nearly 11,000 hectares of forest certified by FSC. Of which, two pioneering enterprises, Hoa Phat Forestry Joint Stock Company and Mai Lam Forestry Company Limited, are managing nearly 7,000 hectares of forest meeting standards, playing the role of "locomotive" in implementing the sustainable forestry value chain.
Yen Binh people cut the area of planted forest towards FSC planted forest.
By 2025, the district aims to plant 3,200 hectares of new forests, of which 2,000 hectares will be FSC certified, bringing the total area of forests certified by FSC and certified organic cinnamon to 16,640 hectares. This is an important step to increase the value of planted forests, protect forest resources and contribute to the goal of sustainable development.
To realize this goal, Yen Binh will focus on promoting and raising awareness among people and businesses about the benefits of developing forests that meet FSC standards; providing technical support and preferential loans to encourage the planting of large timber forests and multi-purpose forests; promoting linkages between households, cooperatives and businesses, forming concentrated raw material areas associated with processing and consumption of forest products; and creating conditions to attract investment in wood processing that meets export standards.
Yen Binh district also strengthens forest resource management, applies technology to monitor forest changes, prevent forest fires and illegal exploitation; combines forest development with ecotourism and biodiversity conservation, creating added value and sustainable livelihoods for forest-dependent communities.
