100 years of Vietnamese Revolutionary Journalism: AI is a tool, not a replacement

With the development of AI, the core role of journalism is still to convey authentic and valuable information to the public, so it is essential to stick to the nature of the content and improve expertise.

In the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and artificial intelligence (AI) technology, faced with a huge amount of information and news, the core role of the media and journalists is still to convey truthful and valuable information and protect the public's right to know.

That is the affirmation of journalist Tham Thi Vi, working at China Global Television Network (CGTN) under China Central Radio and Television (CMG), founder of the news "The China Briefing" when answering an interview with VNA reporter in Beijing about the role of the press and journalists in the era of the 4.0 Revolution, AI technology as today, as well as the opportunities and challenges for journalists in their work.

Journalist Tham Thi Vi believes that the opportunities for journalists when reporting in the current 4.0 technology era lie in the fact that the technological revolution allows information to be disseminated faster and more widely. AI tools can support data collection and trend analysis, thereby helping journalists to analyze and report more effectively, while creating more high-quality journalistic products.

However, along with that, the challenges that journalists face are also not small. Journalist Tham Thi Vi emphasized that with the explosion of information, misinformation and fragmented, fragmented content are increasing. This places higher demands on journalists' ability to distinguish the truth and extract core values.

In today's rapidly evolving information age, where everyone can become a media channel, journalists need to better enhance their technological capabilities and grasp new technologies.

Assessing the current digital transformation trend in journalism as well as how journalists need to adapt to this trend, journalist Tham Thi Vi emphasized that digital transformation in journalism is an inevitable trend.

Users' information consumption habits have shifted from single media to new media platforms, short videos and interactions. This requires the news media industry to break down traditional boundaries and accelerate the transition to an integrated model of "content + technology + user experience."

In that trend, to adapt to the digital transformation in journalism, journalists should first accelerate learning new technologies and master digital skills such as AI in data analysis and short video production.

Second, it is necessary to stick to the essence of the content and maintain professional depth in disseminating and spreading the content quickly.

Third, improve user thinking, through interactive feedback to better understand user needs and make media products more suitable and closer to users.

Sharing his experience in applying AI in current media development, journalist Tham Thi Vi said that it is necessary to focus mainly on content production and user service. For example, AI can be used to support the processing of large amounts of data and information, and algorithms can be used to implement personalized content recommendations to improve users' reading efficiency.

However, it is important to note that AI is a tool, not a replacement, and it is important to do a good job of “human-machine coordination” – humans control the direction and value of topic selection, while AI is responsible for the repetitive work.

In addition, it is necessary to establish a mechanism for evaluating information content, such as an AI content security model detection platform, to avoid technology abuse. Journalist Tham Thi Vi affirmed: "Currently, the efficiency of this has been significantly improved, and the accuracy of the content has also been improved." /.
