(CPV) - The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of the Republic of Korea announced that on the night of February 4, 2023, a fishing boat sank off the coast of Sinan County, Jeonnam Province, South Korea, leaving 9/12 crew members missing, including 2 Vietnamese citizens. As of February 6, 2023, the Korean side has discovered 4 bodies of victims of unknown nationality. The search is still ongoing.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea proactively worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Korean Coast Guard on the incident; directed the Labor Management Board to request the dispatching company and relevant agencies to identify the identities of the injured crew members; contacted the families of the two victims and provided instructions on necessary procedures.
Following the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea is actively coordinating with Korean authorities to urgently deploy necessary citizen protection measures. The Embassy also said that the local authorities are very concerned and closely cooperating with the Embassy in handling issues related to Vietnamese citizens in this accident./.
