Domestic coffee prices remain high compared to the same period last year, despite the world market being under pressure to reduce prices due to abundant supplies in Brazil and some South American countries. In Vietnam, coffee prices fluctuate within a narrow range because the harvest season has not yet begun, and the export market is also in a state of stagnation.

According to experts, the current downward trend in coffee prices on the international market is seasonal as Brazil and many South American countries enter their peak harvest season. However, because Asian countries such as Vietnam will not start their new crop until the end of the year, domestic coffee prices remain stable and have not been directly affected by supply pressure.

The market is currently recording sluggish trading activities. Agents mainly buy retail from farmers who need to rotate capital or serve domestic roasting facilities, with small output of only a few hundred kilograms/time. Meanwhile, large-scale export contracts from several hundred to several thousand tons are almost absent.

Experts advise farmers not to sell off at one time, but to proactively allocate the amount of goods sold to avoid risks when the market fluctuates. Exporting enterprises are also advised to quickly finalize prices for contracts in the third quarter to preserve profits in case prices continue to decrease.

World coffee prices today

Coffee prices on the world market fluctuate on two exchanges:

Robusta Coffee (London):

July 2025 delivery: Up 41 USD/ton, to 4,438 USD/ton.

Delivery September 2025: Down 27 USD/ton, to 4,287 USD/ton.

Arabica Coffee (New York):

July 2025 delivery: Up 1.9 cents/lb, to 349.7 cents/lb.

September 2025 delivery: Up 0.7 cents/lb, to 346 cents/lb.

According to the USDA's 2024–2025 semi-annual report, global coffee supplies are forecast to increase slightly, mainly due to Brazil (+0.2%) and Peru (+8% in 2025–2026).

In addition, the neutral ENSO phenomenon lasting until October 2025 is considered a positive signal for the coffee crop in South America, helping to limit the risk of adverse weather during the flowering period.

On the other hand, consumer cost pressures could impact global purchasing power. According to its Q1/2025 report, JDE Peet's Group is considering raising retail prices, due to persistently high raw material costs, which could curb consumption amid inflation and spending savings.

As of the end of May, certified robusta coffee inventories on the London market increased by 28.1% to 0.92 million bags (60 kg), while arabica inventories also increased by 9.4% to 0.93 million bags. This is a sign that the market is tending to stockpile goods in the context of volatile prices and expectations of recovery in the coming quarters.
