In her tiled-roof house in Ngoc Lam village, Duc Thinh commune, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Lien could not hide her pride when her son, Nguyen Nhu Huong (born in 2007), volunteered to enlist in the army during the 2026 recruitment drive.
Coming from a struggling farming family, with her eldest son serving in the military, Mrs. Lien had initially encouraged her youngest son to learn a trade and find a job near home to increase their income. However, Huong chose to follow in his brother's footsteps and serve the country.

“When I saw my son express his desire to try his hand at training and strive for maturity in the military environment, I was initially a little worried, but then I felt joy and pride that he had matured, learned to think for himself, and chosen his own path. I also encouraged him to try his best to complete the tests and selection processes to achieve his aspirations,” said Mrs. Lien.
Not only Huong, but many young people in Duc Thinh commune have demonstrated their pioneering spirit, volunteering to enlist in the army, showing the proactiveness of the younger generation in fulfilling their duty to the Fatherland.
Tran Xuan Dan (born in 2007, residing in Gia Thinh village, Duc Thinh commune) shared: “Ever since I was in school, I have wanted to wear the military uniform. Therefore, when I met the requirements, I wrote an application to join the military service with the hope of having the opportunity to train in discipline and strive to develop myself in the military environment.”

During the 2026 military conscription recruitment period, Gia Thinh village had 96 young men of conscription age. After screening, 7 citizens were issued conscription orders, including Tran Xuan Dan, who volunteered to participate.
Mr. Phan Dinh Chien, Secretary of the Gia Thinh Village Party Branch, shared: “As a unit with a large number of young people of military age, the village committee has closely coordinated with the Commune Military Command, the Commune Police, and other organizations and associations to disseminate information about the rights and responsibilities of citizens in participating in military service. From there, we have provided appropriate guidance to help the young people think thoroughly and maturely when making their decisions.”
The case of Nguyen Duc Trong (born in 2003, residing in Tuong Van village) is also a testament to the proactive and responsible spirit of the youth of Duc Thinh commune towards their homeland and country. Duc Trong is currently a third-year student at Vinh University of Technology Education ( Nghe An province ). Due to family circumstances, he decided to temporarily put his studies on hold to pursue a different path.
“For me, the military environment is a great school, where I not only receive excellent training in awareness and discipline but also instill a sacred responsibility and duty to the Fatherland. My decision has the support of my family, school, and local community. Therefore, if I am selected this time, I promise to strive to become a professional soldier in the future,” Trong said.

As of the time the recruitment order was issued, Duc Thinh commune has 29 young people who have volunteered to enlist, including 19 for military service and 10 for the People's Public Security Force. The confidence and proactiveness of the youth of Duc Thinh not only demonstrate the readiness of Gen Z citizens for the common good but also show the effectiveness of propaganda and the successful implementation of recruitment activities at the grassroots level.
Mr. Dinh Van Sam, Commander of the Duc Thinh Commune Military Command, informed: “Immediately after the implementation of the two-tiered local government system, the Duc Thinh Commune Military Service Council developed a plan, reviewed and advised the local Party committee and government to seriously implement the recruitment steps for 2026. As a result, most citizens of eligible age have a clear understanding of their responsibilities and obligations in peacetime.”
In addition, citizens and their families have been thoroughly informed about the policies and benefits of participating in military service, such as: emergency hardship allowances, free health insurance cards for family members; allowances during and after military service; vocational training and job placement programs, etc. Therefore, the entire commune has recorded a very high number of voluntary applications to join the military."

It is known that in the 2026 recruitment drive, Duc Thinh commune was assigned a quota of 41 official citizens and 1 reserve citizen to participate in military and public security service. To date, Duc Thinh is one of the top units in the province in terms of the number of young people who volunteered to join the military. These volunteer applications extend the tradition of patriotism and dedication of the youth of Duc Thinh commune in particular and Ha Tinh province in general on the journey of serving and protecting the Fatherland.
