Three people were killed on June 17 when the light aircraft they were in crashed in a mountainous area in southern France, regional prosecutor Patrice Camberou said.
According to Prosecutor Camberou, French authorities have opened an investigation to clarify the cause of the plane crash near the village of Gonfaron, Var province, in the administrative region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Criminal investigators and forensics officers were on the scene.
Meanwhile, the French Army's Southern Command confirmed that two of the three victims were soldiers from the training base of the 2nd Combat Helicopter Regiment.
Local firefighters confirmed earlier that they had been called to the scene to deal with a plane crash that had sparked a fire in the surrounding bush.
The fire was quickly extinguished./.
