4 daily foods that help reduce the risk of prostate cancer

No single food can completely prevent prostate cancer. However, a growing body of research suggests that regularly eating certain foods rich in antioxidants and natural anti-inflammatories may reduce your risk.

Regularly eating the following foods can help prevent prostate cancer:

Soybeans reduce prostate cancer cell growth

Soybeans provide isoflavones, a plant-based estrogen-like compound. Isoflavones are not hormones, but they may interact slightly with estrogen receptors, thereby affecting the body's endocrine signals. Laboratory studies have shown that isoflavones slow the growth of cancer cells, including breast, prostate, and colon cancer.

To effectively utilize isoflavones from soybeans, people should prioritize minimally processed foods such as whole soybeans, tofu or soy milk. These are sources that retain the highest amount of natural isoflavones.

When preparing food, avoid frying at very high temperatures, as heat can reduce isoflavone content. Instead, steaming, boiling, or lightly cooking will help preserve these compounds better.

Tomato

Tomatoes contain lycopene, a carotenoid pigment. This is a group of substances that create natural red, orange, and yellow colors for plants. They are important for human health, are oil-soluble, and have strong antioxidant activity, according to the health website Healthline (USA).

Lycopene has been shown to reduce oxidative stress, regulate cell growth signals, and reduce chronic inflammation, all of which are linked to cancer development, including prostate cancer .

People should prioritize eating cooked or processed tomatoes, such as tomato sauce. Cooking at high temperatures and in oil helps release and increase the absorption of lycopene.

Broccoli

Broccoli is rich in glucosinolates and sulforaphane, which have been shown in numerous studies to inhibit cancer growth and activate cellular detoxification systems.

Cooking methods affect the amount of sulforaphane in broccoli. Eating it raw or steaming it lightly for 2–3 minutes usually retains this active ingredient better. Steaming it lightly can even increase the amount of sulforaphane.

Green tea

Green tea contains catechins, which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and reduce the risk of cancer. In a clinical trial published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research , scientists conducted on men with precancerous prostate lesions. The results showed that catechin extract from green tea can reduce the risk of lesions developing into cancer.

Therefore, green tea becomes a healthy food for men's diet. However, if men have underlying diseases or regularly take medication, they should consult a doctor if they want to use green tea regularly. This helps avoid the risk of drug interactions, especially when using green tea in high-dose extract capsules, according to Healthline .
