5.23 billion USD in remittances to Ho Chi Minh City in the first half of 2025
Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, said that the amount of remittances transferred in the second quarter of 2025 through credit institutions and economic organizations increased sharply compared to the same period in recent years.
Specifically, the amount of remittances transferred to Ho Chi Minh City through credit institutions and economic organizations in the second quarter of 2025 reached nearly 2.82 billion USD, an increase of 16.9% over the previous quarter (the first quarter of 2025 was 2.41 billion USD) and an increase of 22.1% over the same period last year (the second quarter of 2024 reached 2.31 billion USD).
In terms of market, the growth rate in the first 6 months of 2025 compared to the same period, Africa had the highest increase in remittances to the City (up 130.8%), Europe had a growth rate of 16%, America increased by 11.9%, Oceania increased by 8.9%...
Asia continues to be the market with the largest proportion and dominates the remaining markets. The reason may be due to the strong increase from markets such as Japan, Korea, Taiwan where many Vietnamese workers work.
Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, Tran Thi Ngoc Lien, emphasized that the steady growth of remittances in recent times has contributed to creating conditions for the city's economic development, stimulating consumption and investment, and increasing foreign currency supply...
In addition, according to the State Bank, the provinces including Ba Ria - Vung Tau , Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc (before the merger) had remittances transferred through credit institutions as of June 30, 2025 reaching over 127.5 million USD.
From July 1, the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, will manage the new Ho Chi Minh City (merged with Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong ) and the new Dong Nai (merged with Binh Phuoc). By the end of June 2025, the total outstanding credit balance of credit institutions in the new Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province will reach over VND5.3 million billion, an increase of 6.31% compared to the end of 2024 and accounting for 30.8% of the total outstanding credit balance of the whole industry.
