5 teams compete for survival tickets

VHO - After a break of more than 10 days to make way for the FIFA Days series, V.League 1 2024/25 returns this weekend with round 25 - the penultimate round. This sprint stage promises to be dramatic, as the situation at both ends of the rankings is still tense and undecided. Notably, the bottom group witnessed a breathless "survival battle" between many teams. This round is therefore not only the finishing line, but also the final gamble for many teams who are eager to either keep the fire burning or hold on to hope.

Nam Dinh before the historic moment

Before this round, Nam Dinh had a big advantage to successfully defend the championship. With 51 points after 24 matches, the team from the Southern region is 5 points ahead of the second-placed Hanoi FC. If they win the away match against Quang Nam, the defending champions will be crowned one round early, regardless of the results of the remaining matches.

However, the challenge for coach Vu Hong Viet and his team is not small. Quang Nam currently has 24 points and also needs points to stay in the league. A victory will help the Tam Ky home team officially stay in the V.League next season. That turns the match into an extremely fierce "two-goal" confrontation, when both sides are not allowed to make mistakes.

If Nam Dinh draw, they can still win the championship early if Hanoi FC cannot beat The Cong Viettel in the Capital derby. In case Nam Dinh loses and Hanoi FC wins, the championship will have to wait until round 26 to be decided. Not giving up in the championship race, Hanoi FC is quietly chasing with excellent form with 3 consecutive wins before round 25.

In this round, Hanoi FC will face The Cong Viettel in a match that is considered the "honor match" of Hanoi football. Although they no longer have much motivation, The Cong Viettel has never been an easy opponent for Hanoi FC, especially when they have a young and highly disciplined squad. If they win 3 points, Hanoi FC will have to wait for Nam Dinh to stumble. Although the opportunity is not great, in football, any scenario can happen, especially when the psychological pressure at the end of the season can change the situation at any time.

Another team that used to be in the top but is now struggling in the bottom group is Quy Nhon Binh Dinh. The team from the land of Vo fell deeply after the mid-season and currently has only 21 points (after 23 matches), ranking second to last. With a schedule of matches against both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi FC, Binh Dinh's future is still a big question mark.

Tense as a string at the bottom of the table

Unlike the previous season (where Khanh Hoa was "closed" early), the relegation race in V.League 2024/25 is becoming an unprecedentedly breathtaking scenario. Except for the 8 teams that are safe, there are 6 teams that are still at risk of relegation or having to play the play-off, including: HAGL (28 points), Quang Nam (24), Ho Chi Minh City (24), SLNA (23), Binh Dinh (21) and Da Nang (21). In theory, HAGL is in a safer position than the other 5 teams.

Among them, SLNA and Da Nang are two names that experts are paying special attention to. SLNA has clearly declined in the second phase, winning only 1 of the last 8 matches, while Da Nang has strongly revived with 17 points in 13 matches under coach Le Duc Tuan, including 3 recent wins at home. The match between the two teams in round 26 is therefore predicted to be a "life and death" match, possibly a fate-determining confrontation. Tam Ky (where Da Nang is borrowing the field) has become a solid fortress, having defeated Thanh Hoa, Binh Dinh and Quang Nam in turn. With their current form and spirit, Da Nang can completely hope for a "miraculous escape". But before the final round, both teams really need points in the penultimate round. Da Nang will be a guest of Hong Linh Ha Tinh while SLNA will host HAGL, the two teams no longer have much motivation to fight.

Before the “reverse final” of the last round between Da Nang and SLNA will be another “reverse final” between Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Dinh. Both are in the danger zone and only a win will help one of the two teams move up. If Ho Chi Minh City loses, they will be closely followed by Binh Dinh and Da Nang. On the contrary, if Binh Dinh fails, the door to relegation will gradually close.

It should also be noted that Binh Dinh still has a make-up match against CAHN on June 18. The result of this match could have a big impact on the relegation race if the points gap between the teams is too close after round 25.

Round 25 of V.League 2024/25 will take place simultaneously at 5:00 p.m. on June 15, with the following matches: Hanoi FC - The Cong Viettel; Ho Chi Minh City - Binh Dinh; SLNA - HAGL; Quang Nam - Nam Dinh; Hong Linh Ha Tinh - Da Nang; Thanh Hoa - CAHN; Hai Phong - Binh Duong. This is not only a round that determines the championship, but also deeply affects the psychology and tactics of the teams before the final round. In a context where just one misstep can ruin all the efforts of the entire season, the pressure is weighing heavily on each pair of feet, each tactical decision of the coach.

In addition, after the FIFA Days break, national players must return to their clubs within 48-72 hours. For teams with many players such as Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, The Cong Viettel or CAHN, this is a big problem in terms of physical strength and recovery. In addition, the weather is entering its peak of heat, directly affecting the intensity of the match. Rotating players and calculating personnel appropriately will greatly determine the results of the penultimate round.

V.League 2024/25 is witnessing one of the most dramatic seasons in the relegation race. Not only is there a competitive element but there is also the element of surprise from Da Nang's incredible revival. In this round 25, fans have the right to expect truly "hot" matches, where every mistake can be paid for, and glory is only reserved for the brave teams who know how to seize the opportunity.
