At noon on May 9, the District 5 Area Team, Ho Chi Minh City Police coordinated with Ward 5 Police to investigate the scene to clarify the cause of the fire at an apartment on the 3rd floor of Vinh Vien apartment building (Tran Hung Dao street, Ward 5, District 5), which caused 5 people in a family to suffocate from smoke.

At around 4:30 a.m. the same day, many residents living in the Vien Dong apartment building smelled a burning smell coming from apartment number 301 on the 3rd floor, so they shouted and used mini fire extinguishers to knock on the door to help put out the fire, but could not get close.

The Fire Prevention and Fighting Team of District 5, the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police Department, Ho Chi Minh City Police sent 3 specialized fire trucks and 17 officers to the scene to put out the fire. The rescue team approached the apartment and took 5 people in a state of smoke inhalation out and transferred them to Cho Ray Hospital for emergency treatment.

There were 5 people trapped in the house, 2 of whom suffered from severe smoke inhalation: Mrs. TDM (born in 1962) and Mr. TTH (born in 1991). Many residents living here said that there were 5 people living in the apartment, including: 2 twin girls about 5 years old, the mother of the 2 girls, Mrs. M. and Mr. H. (mentally unstable).
The fire caused severe damage to some of the property in the apartment. Relevant units are examining the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
