Every afternoon, after school, the campus of Chieu Luu 1 Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities in Ky Son District is very lively and bustling. Teachers and students play sports together to improve their health. Along with familiar sports such as football, volleyball, badminton, the highland school has just put into operation and used a smart swimming pool.

During the recent hot days, the swimming pool area often attracts a lot of students to come to learn swimming and cool off. Through research, it is known that the swimming pool is 8x18m in size, made of synthetic plastic canvas, very sturdy steel frame, spread on a hard concrete floor. Around the swimming pool there is a surrounding fence system, bathroom, changing room to serve the students.

Chieu Luu 1 Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities has 409 students, of which 122 are boarding students, the rest have returned to their families within a range of their school. Talking to us, teacher Dao Cong Quang, Principal of Chieu Luu 1 Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, said: “When there was a policy to build a swimming pool for students, we sent 3 staff and teachers to attend training to obtain swimming coach certificates. As soon as the project was put into use, the school's Board of Directors assigned these comrades to manage and teach swimming to students on a shift basis, rotating according to each class. The management and supervision of teaching and learning swimming for students is ensured scientifically , ensuring absolute safety”.

Many students can swim well after being instructed by teachers.

In recent days, students of the highland school have been very excited to learn how to swim and cool off in the swimming pool on the school grounds. They all look forward to coming to their class to enjoy splashing around in the clean water. Quang Le An Nhien, a second grader at Chieu Luu 1 Primary School for Ethnic Minorities, confided: “Before, I watched on TV and saw my friends in the lowlands enjoying swimming in the pool. I never thought that our school would have such a modern swimming pool. Under the guidance of my teachers, I will try to learn how to swim to improve my health and ensure safety when in contact with water.”

It is known that in this school year, the education sector of Ky Son district has 16/47 schools built and installed standard smart swimming pools. Of which, the funding source for purchasing swimming pools is provided by the Provincial People's Committee, Ky Son district People's Committee spends the budget to build a hard concrete foundation, surrounding fence, bathroom, and changing room for students.

Comrade Pham Viet Phuc, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Ky Son district said: “The fact that schools in our border district have swimming pools that meet standards is a great joy for teachers and students. On that basis, schools have the conditions to comprehensively educate students, especially popularize swimming skills for them, gradually pushing back accidents and drowning. We will direct school units to manage and use swimming pools for the right purposes, scientifically and ensure absolute safety in all aspects”.
