According to the General Statistics Office, Ministry of Finance , in the first five months of 2025, the industrial production index (IIP) is estimated to increase by 8.8% over the same period last year (in the same period of 2024, it increased by 7.1%). This is a positive growth rate in the first months of 2025.
The index of industrial production (IIP) for the whole industry in May 2025 is estimated to increase by 4.3% compared to the previous month and by 9.4% compared to the same period last year. Of which, the water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment industry increased by 11.3% compared to the same period last year; the processing and manufacturing industry increased by 11.0%; electricity production and distribution increased by 3.3%; and the mining industry increased by 1.2%.
The industrial production index in the first five months of 2025 compared to the same period last year increased in 61 localities, with Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and Cao Bang province decreasing by 3.4% and 3.3% respectively. Some localities had a fairly high IIP index thanks to the processing and manufacturing industry; the electricity production and distribution industry increased highly. On the contrary, some localities had a low or decreasing IIP index due to the processing and manufacturing industry; the mining industry and the electricity production and distribution industry increased low or decreased.
According to the General Statistics Office, some key industrial products in the first five months of 2025 increased compared to the same period last year: Automobiles; televisions; LPG; NPK mixed fertilizer; casual clothes; rolled steel; natural fiber woven fabrics; cement; steel bars, angle steel; leather shoes and sandals; diameter. Meanwhile, some products decreased compared to the same period last year such as: Natural gas in gas form; crude oil; synthetic fiber woven fabrics; beer.
Due to the increase in industrial production, it can be seen that the number of employees working in industrial enterprises (statistics as of May 1, 2025) also increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last month and increased by 4.5% compared to the same period last year.
By industry, the number of workers working in the following sectors increased: processing and manufacturing; production and distribution of electricity, gas, hot water, steam and air conditioning; water supply, waste and wastewater management and treatment.
According to the General Statistics Office, Ministry of Finance, the growth/decrease rate of IIP index in April 2025 compared to the previous month of some localities with large industrial scale: Bac Ninh increased by 14.1%; Ba Ria-Vung Tau increased by 11.1%; Quang Ninh increased by 5.5%; Dong Nai increased by 5.2%; Ho Chi Minh City increased by 5.1%; Binh Duong increased by 5.0%; Quang Ngai increased by 3.0%; Da Nang increased by 2.7%; Bac Giang increased by 2.1; Hai Duong increased by 1.7%; Vinh Long increased by 1.3%; Hai Phong decreased by 4.3%.
