"50 years of national joy"

Việt NamViệt Nam28/04/2025

“50 Years of National Joy” was organized to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). The program recreated the atmosphere of this day half a century ago, when troops surged like a flood towards Saigon; and once again affirmed the crucial role of the capital city as both the nerve center and the vanguard in the great national struggle.

In the program, the audience will enjoy songs associated with important historical milestones such as "The Song by the Banks of Hien Luong River" (poetry by Dang Giang, music by Hoang Hiep), "Far from Shore" (Nguyen Tai Tue), "Song of Hope" (Van Ky)... or songs expressing the spirit of "looking towards the South" such as "The Truong Son Walking Stick" (Pham Tuyen), "Love Song" (Hoang Viet)... The songs "Hanoi, Hue , Saigon" (Hoang Van), "Hue, Saigon, Hanoi" (Trinh Cong Son) in the program affirm the connection between these three locations during the resistance war.

In particular, the art performance presented the audience with compositions about the capital during the most challenging days of the war, such as "Hanoi on Sleepless Nights" (Pham Tuyen), "The Song of Hanoi" (Vu Thanh)... Songs like "A Hastily Written Letter" (Duong Cam), "My Memories" (Phu Quang)... will partly recreate the feelings and thoughts of young Hanoi soldiers who "put aside their pens and went to war," so that the whole country and nation could sing together the melodies of "The Song of Unification" (Vo Van Di), "The Country's Complete Joy" (Hoang Ha)...

The vibrant atmosphere of patriotic emulation movements in the capital such as "Three Ready," "Three Capable," "Three Best Flags," "Great Wind," etc., is also recreated in the program "50 Years of National Joy" through vivid documentaries, images, and materials.

The program included a tribute to announcer Trinh Thi Ngo of the "Hanoi Hannah" group, a group of Vietnamese female announcers who, during the resistance war, took turns reading propaganda announcements on Radio Hanoi to call on American soldiers to abandon the war and demand the right to return home. A special documentary about the "Iron Helmet" Regiment took viewers back to the summit of Chu Tan Kra (Sa Thay district, Kon Tum province), where, in the early morning of March 26, 1968, more than 200 soldiers of the 209th Regiment - 312th Division bravely sacrificed their lives in a fierce confrontation with American soldiers.

Here, the audience can also interact with historical witnesses, including soldiers, young intellectuals who left Hanoi's lecture halls to go to the battlefield, and witnesses who were present at Saigon Radio Station on April 30, 1975…

The program "50 Years of National Joy" was elaborately staged, harmoniously combining political commentary and artistic expression, and featured many beloved artists such as People's Artist Tan Minh, Meritorious Artist Lan Anh; singers My Linh, Quach Mai Thy, Tran Tung Anh, Kyo York; the Thang Long group, the Hanoi Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tre Dance Troupe…
