AFC finalizes U23 Vietnam's match schedule at U23 Asian Cup

According to the draw results of the U23 Asian Cup, U23 Vietnam is in Group D with opponents U23 Uzbekistan, U23 Kuwait and U23 Malaysia. As of today (November 28), AFC has finalized the match schedule of U23 Vietnam.

Accordingly, coach Troussier's team will play their opening match in Group D against U23 Kuwait at 10:30 p.m. on April 17 (6:30 p.m. Qatar time) at Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Stadium.

In the remaining two matches, U23 Vietnam will play at Khalifa International Stadium, respectively meeting U23 Malaysia at 20:00 on April 20 (16:00 Qatar time) and meeting U23 Uzbekistan at 22:30 on April 23 (18:30 Qatar time).

Khalifa International Stadium is one of eight stadiums used for the 2022 World Cup. It will host eight matches, including six group stage matches, one round of 16 match and the third-place match.

The 2024 AFC U23 Championship is crucial in determining the continent's representatives at the 2024 Olympics. The top three teams will qualify for Paris. The fourth-placed team will face a play-off against an African representative.

Evaluating the opponents in Group D, Coach Troussier said: "For me, each group and each match brings its own challenges. We all know that this U23 Asian Cup is special for the teams in general and me personally. Because the tournament is also the Qualifiers for the 2024 Olympics held in France.

Regarding the three opponents in the same group with U23 Vietnam, Uzbekistan is theoretically considered the strongest team because they have often achieved good results in youth tournaments at the continental level in recent years.

I think Kuwait and Malaysia will be direct competitors for the ticket to pass the group stage with U23 Vietnam. But as I said, no match will be easy because they also have the same dream as us, which is to go as far as possible and have a place in Paris 2024."

The 2024 AFC U23 Championship will take place from April 15 to May 3, 2024 in Qatar.
