An Giang: Digital life in rural areas changes every day

In Ta Keo Vam neighborhood, Danh Chung lifted the drone up lightly, sweeping evenly over each row of green rice. Khmer farmers, who are used to traditional methods, have now mastered the control of technological equipment, saving labor and improving productivity.

People proactively access technology

Ta Keo Vam, Vinh Thong ward is one of the areas with a large Khmer population. If a few years ago, the concept of "digital transformation" was still quite unfamiliar to people, now the smartphone has become a familiar tool, used for many other purposes besides communication. People look up weather forecasts to arrange crops, participate in small online markets, pay electricity and water bills via apps, and follow the news.

The neighborhood’s community digital technology team plays an important role in this change. According to Mr. Danh Hien Sanh, Deputy Secretary of the neighborhood’s Party Cell, team members regularly visit each household to guide them through the most basic operations, from reading newspapers on their phones to submitting online public service applications. Many people are accessing social networks for the first time, but after just a few training sessions, they know how to text and video call their children and grandchildren who are working far away.

Thanks to that, most households in Ta Keo Vam now own smartphones and know how to use the Internet to serve their daily lives. Local authorities are also more convenient in implementing community activities, because people can quickly grasp announcements, policies and guidelines through online communication groups.

Technology steps into the fields

Many farmers here have begun to apply high technology to production. In addition to drones that support pesticide spraying, some households also apply software to record the farming process, helping to manage costs and productivity more scientifically .

Mr. Danh Chung said that in the past, he had to hire workers for each spraying, which was both time-consuming and dangerous. "Now I do it alone, it takes a few dozen minutes. The pesticides are sprayed evenly, reducing waste, and ensuring better health," he shared. According to him, the important change is not only in modern equipment, but also in farmers' awareness: Technology is an essential part of sustainable agricultural development.

This change in the people is promoted when An Giang promotes the implementation of programs and projects on population data, electronic identification and application of information technology at the grassroots level. Telecommunication infrastructure is widely invested, high-speed Internet covers 100% of communes and wards, helping people access information more quickly and digital production models also have conditions to develop.

Digital technology team - a bridge between government and people

These positive changes have been marked by the more than 1,000 community digital technology groups operating across the province. With nearly 8,000 members, the groups are present in every hamlet and residential area, becoming the core force in the process of spreading technology to every family.

In Go Quao commune, according to Chairman of the People's Committee Trang Hong Nghia, community digital technology teams not only guide people to use digital platforms but also promptly reflect difficulties in the access process, helping the government quickly adjust the implementation of online public services. This companionship makes digital transformation more accessible and less complicated, especially for the elderly or those with limited access to technology.

The Kim Qui A Hamlet Digital Technology Team, Van Khanh Commune, is remembered by the people for its dedication in each training session. Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phi, Deputy Head of the Hamlet, said the team's goal is for each family to have at least one person proficient in using smartphones. "They not only use it for themselves, but also share and help those around them. When the community learns together, digital transformation is faster and more sustainable," he said.

Up to now, more than 90% of the people in the hamlet use smartphones, are familiar with looking up information, buying and selling goods online or using the VNeID application. Ms. Truong Thi Anh, a resident in the hamlet, said: "The team came to my house to install VNeID for me. Now it is convenient to go anywhere, all documents are integrated in the phone, no fear of losing them."

The efforts of community digital technology groups in recent times have not only helped people access technology but also created a foundation for improving digital skills. From simple operations, people gradually approach more advanced content such as information security, data security, and use of e-government services.

This helps them become more confident in using technology to solve their daily needs, from cashless payments to online application submission. For young people, digital skills open up more job opportunities, while for older people, technology helps them connect with family, integrate into new life without being left behind./.
