Young durian must be discarded, the fruit gradually spoils.

More than a week has passed since the storm and rain, but Mr. Tran Van Chon ( a durian farmer in Hamlet 7, Bau Don Commune ) is still sad because the damage caused by natural disasters to him and other durian growers in the area is too great.

Mr. Chon said that his durian garden lost more than 10 tons of young fruit. With the current price of about 50,000 VND/kg purchased by traders at the garden, he suffered a loss of more than 500 million VND. In Hamlet 7, the number of young durians lost by households due to natural disasters is estimated at tens of tons.

When the incident happened, traders bought fallen durian from gardeners to make ice cream (to get the flavor of ice cream) for 1,000 VND/kg, but the quantity was very small, the rest the farmers had to keep as green manure.

Last year's durian season, traders bought the garden at 65,000 VND/kg, this year the purchase price is only 50,000 VND/kg, sometimes less than 50,000 VND. Meanwhile, to take care of durian, farmers have to spend a lot of money such as fertilizer, hiring workers... Mr. Tran Van Chon shared that the investment cost for each hectare of durian until harvest is about 300 million VND/crop, not including the cost of care. Therefore, when the garden was damaged by natural disasters, Mr. Chon considered that this year's durian season did not bring much profit.

A durian tree over 10 years old was broken due to rain and storm on May 2, 2025.

According to information from durian growers in Hamlet 7, Bau Don Commune, after the natural disaster, the Bau Don Commune authorities came to count the damage of each household. However, farmers are concerned because the durian growing area is adjacent to Don Thuan Commune (Trang Bang Town), so for some durian areas located on the land of Bau Don and Don Thuan Communes, which locality will propose to the authorities to support durian growers who suffered damage due to natural disasters.
