Ba Vi is crowded again from 4am in wild sunflower season

Early morning of November 16, crowds of people flocked to Ba Vi National Park to "hunt" for clouds and admire wild sunflowers. Among the congested group of visitors, there were still many "supermen" and "Arab princes".

Departing from Hanoi at 3am, Phung Thi Minh Loan (born in 2002) arrived at the gate of Ba Vi National Park at 4am and was surprised to see that the ticket booth was packed.

“When I got there, there was already a long line of young people. I waited 30 minutes to buy a ticket even though it wasn’t quite dawn yet,” Loan said.

She said she has been to Ba Vi for 6 consecutive years during the wild sunflower season, usually choosing to go really early to avoid the crowds, but this year she still "lost" to many other young people who went earlier.

She and her husband both love wild sunflowers and go every year, but this time "it was too crowded so they only did one lap and then returned." On the way down the mountain, they were stuck in traffic again due to the large number of vehicles.

She also witnessed many cases of young people speeding, swerving, picking flowers to take pictures and then leaving them behind, affecting the landscape.

Similarly, Duong Thi Minh Nguyet (Soc Son) said she was also stuck at the ticket gate since dawn.

“I left at 5am and only got through the gate at almost 8am because it was so crowded. The motorbikes were lined up tightly,” Nguyet said. Although she had been to Ba Vi many times, this was the first time she experienced such a serious traffic jam.

Speaking with Tri Thuc - Znews , Mr. Do Huu The, Director of Ba Vi National Park, confirmed that on peak days of viewing wild sunflowers, the number of visitors increased dramatically, mainly students.

“Yesterday (November 15) there were more than 10,000 visitors, today (November 16) there are expected to be over 15,000, possibly reaching 20,000 visitors/day,” he said.

According to Mr. The, many young people leave at 2am to watch the moon, hunt clouds and welcome the sunrise on the mountain top. This year's wild sunflower season was affected by the first two weeks of rain, so it is difficult to estimate the total number of visitors. However, the unit expects the number of visitors to reach more than 100,000 during the peak month this year. It is expected that by the first week of December, the flowers will begin to fade.

Mr. The said that compared to last year, the situation of young people revving their engines, speeding, waving flags, pretending to be superheroes or “Arab princes” still exists but has decreased. Traffic police and national park officials are on duty to direct traffic, remind and handle violations.

For young people wearing misleading outfits to take photos, the management force asks them not to stand in the middle of the road and pose to avoid distracting drivers.

He jokingly said that during peak tourist days, not only traffic jams but also love affairs are jammed. The management board sometimes has to intervene to mediate a few cases of young couples arguing in the middle of the tourist area. However, according to him, the general atmosphere is still cheerful, with lots of smiles and the road from Hanoi to Ba Vi is quite short, so the number of young tourists continues to be very large.

According to the Management Board, the wild sunflower season in Ba Vi takes place from October 26 to December 8, and is most beautiful from November 2 to November 24. This is also the most attractive time of the year, signaling the end of autumn and the beginning of winter on the Ba Vi mountain range.

From Hanoi, visitors can travel along Thang Long Avenue or National Highway 32, then turn onto Provincial Road 414 to Km8+800m to enter the national park gate.

Entrance fee to Ba Vi National Park includes:

  • Adult ticket: 60,000 VND/person/trip;
  • Student ticket: 20,000 VND/person/trip;
  • Student ticket: 10,000 VND/person/trip;
