Bac Kan develops OCOP products

Bac Kan is the second province in the country after Quang Ninh to systematically and synchronously implement the One Commune, One Product (OCOP) program. Up to now, the province has had an increasing number of high-star products, some of which have been exported.

Duong Quang Cooperative is one of the units operating effectively in Bac Kan city. Currently, the cooperative has Dung Dinh smoked sausage and Dung Dinh smoked pork products that have been recognized as three-star OCOP products. To achieve that result, in recent years, in addition to investing in technology, applying high technology in production and processing of products, there has been a change in the production thinking of cooperative members.

According to the Director of Nong Thanh Nha Cooperative, in the past, the unit developed livestock farming and clean vegetable growing, however, the products did not have designs, packaging and were mainly consumed in the provincial market. In 2018, the cooperative reorganized production at the right time when the province started implementing the OCOP program. Participating in the program, members realized that in order for products to have value, they must ensure quality, have full labels and beautiful packaging and know how to promote, introduce products, connect with the market, etc.

Therefore, along with investing in modern machinery to improve product quality, the cooperative has designed labels for each product. Currently, all products are certified for food hygiene and safety, and recognized as three-star OCOP products at the provincial level.

Many typical products in remote areas, thanks to participating in the OCOP program, have positioned their brands and are present in major supermarkets across the country. In Cho Don district, Ngoc Thang Agricultural Development and Medicinal Processing Company Limited has chosen to produce and process Shan Tuyet tea, a long-standing product in Bang Phuc commune. The company cooperates with local people to select tea material areas that must be 10 years old or older, applying full technical processes from harvesting to care; focusing on investing in design, improving and diversifying products.

According to statistics, up to now, Cho Don has had 31 OCOP products including three four-star products; 28 three-star products. Many products are typical products of the region such as: Khau Nua Pai sticky rice, Luong Bang commune; Hong Quan stewed pig's feet; Bang Phuc leaf yeast wine...

Vice Chairman of Cho Don District People's Committee Dang Dinh Phong said: The OCOP program has breathed new life into local agricultural and forestry production. In the coming time, the district will continue to direct and guide, especially cooperatives and cooperatives, to implement the OCOP program to form a highly effective value production chain. The district is also making efforts to connect to bring vermicelli and dried pho products towards export in the coming time.

Determining that in order to develop effectively, it is necessary to first advise and guide the subjects to choose the right direction, so in the past 5 years, Bac Kan has organized 11 on-site consulting sessions to support 100% of the subjects participating in the project. The Provincial Cooperative Union has directly advised more than 1,200 founders on cooperative knowledge, organizational structure, and product profiles participating in the OCOP program. The province also selected 25 OCOP products that have been recognized to develop the province's key OCOP product group.

In addition, Bac Kan prioritizes mechanisms, policies and resources to support entities in developing, processing and connecting product consumption. From 2018 to 2023, the province has invested nearly 200 billion VND to implement the program. In the past 5 years, the province has supported 11 cooperatives participating in the OCOP program to carry out eight projects and one topic to standardize raw material areas for producing recognized OCOP products. Specialized agencies have supported 69 new establishments, seven establishments to reissue codes and barcodes; 24 organizations and individuals to update data in accordance with Vietnamese standards on traceability.

Summarizing 5 years of implementing Directive No. 21-CT/TU of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on strengthening leadership and direction in implementing the project "One product per commune and ward", Bac Kan Provincial Party Committee assessed that the project has achieved and exceeded its set goals. Party committees, authorities, enterprises, cooperatives and people have had the right awareness and actively implemented it in conjunction with promoting the potential strengths of the locality. The achieved results affirm the province's right direction in mobilizing the entire political system to participate in the implementation.

By the end of 2023, the whole province had 218 products recognized as achieving three-star OCOP or higher. This result was achieved two years early, reaching 109% of the project's target for the 2021-2025 period. Notably, the province has one five-star OCOP product out of 42 five-star products nationwide, two products exported to the European and Japanese markets; 13 products have raw material areas that meet organic, VietGAP, GACP-WHO standards; eight entities maintain advanced quality management systems during the production process. The products have been posted for sale on e-commerce platforms. 94.6% of entities have revenue that has increased by 1.1 times or more; 86% of entities have factories; 95% of entities contribute to creating jobs for five or more local workers...

In the coming time, Bac Kan aims to maintain more than 200 OCOP products or more with 3-4 stars; of which, by 2025, strive to have at least two products with five stars. At the same time, consolidate, develop and maintain more than 100 economic organizations participating in OCOP Bac Kan and gradually form a system to promote and advertise OCOP Bac Kan products. Focus on applying 4.0 technology in brand development, distribution and product marketing, thereby increasing OCOP sales of economic entities.
