This is the third surgery in just the first month since the deployment to carry out the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.
The patient suffered a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon in his left leg (a thick band of tissue located behind the heel) during training. After being examined and thoroughly consulted by the medical team of Field Hospital 2.7, the patient expressed his trust and desire to have surgery right at the hospital to facilitate treatment and mission command.

Since this was a case of expanded treatment, the doctors of Field Hospital 2.7 reported the situation and asked for permission from the Chief Medical Officer of the Mission (FMO) to schedule and perform surgery on the patient. Dr. Tran Duc Tai - Director of Field Hospital 2.7 directly performed the surgery.
After nearly an hour of surgery, the team sutured and reconnected the two severed tendon ends, ensuring stability, minimizing bleeding and helping the tendon recover in the correct physiological direction.
Up to now, the patient's health has stabilized, the surgical wound is dry, healing well, recovering smoothly and has been instructed on care and early rehabilitation exercises to ensure good tendon healing and early return to work.
After one month since the deployment date (September 22 - October 22), Field Hospital 2.7 has:
- Performed 3 successful surgeries, including 2 emergency surgeries and 1 Achilles tendon repair surgery for international officers.
- Perform 1 medical evacuation by air (Medevac).
- Receive, examine and treat 200 patients.
- Fully participate in peacekeeping training courses organized by the UNMISS Mission.
- Comprehensively stabilize professional, logistical, cultural and spiritual work, ready to excellently complete tasks in the next phase.
