Mr. Tanaka Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is on a working visit to Vietnam. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam, on the afternoon of March 7, he gave a special lecture at the Vietnam-Japan University (VJU) My Dinh Campus (Hanoi).

In a special lecture with the theme "The World and Japan: Post-Cold War Era" to the staff, lecturers, researchers and students of the Japanese Studies Program at the Vietnam-Japan University, JICA President Tanaka Akihiko presented figures on Japan's economy, politics, security and investment after the Cold War and JICA's efforts. He also emphasized that Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) to Vietnam is the largest compared to other countries.
The Q&A session raised many questions and answered questions about the importance of human security, the role of education, especially the role of higher education institutions such as Vietnam-Japan University.

During the discussion with students studying the Master's program at the university, the president shared many opinions based on his knowledge and experience as the president of JICA. Regarding some questions from students related to important thinking in the current volatile and challenging world situation, the president said that meeting urgent needs is also very necessary, however, JICA always attaches importance to the goal of effective cooperation with a long-term vision.
Since 2018, JICA has cooperated with Japanese universities to implement the "Development Research Program (JICA - DSP)" to develop future leadership human resources in various fields in developing countries.
In addition to specialized training and research activities, the study abroad program in Japan also creates opportunities for students to study Japan and learn about Japan's development experience based on historical context and cultural foundation.

Within the framework of this program, JICA has been implementing the "JICA Chair" program since 2020, which is a program to support the establishment of Japanese Studies courses to expand opportunities to learn from Japan's development experience for many countries. These courses are held at leading universities in the host countries.
To date, "JICA Chair" has been implemented at universities and research institutes in 64 countries, of which the program has implemented a number of activities in Vietnam since 2021, such as: Inviting Japanese researchers to teach special lectures to enhance understanding of Japan for researchers and students at universities with Japanese studies majors, and donating books on Japanese studies to a number of universities.
