>> Yen Bai urgently prevents and combats the risk of large-scale forest fires
Assessing the potential risks that can cause forest fires, Major Ho A Denh - Chief of Ban Mu Commune Police, Yen Bai Provincial Police said: "Currently, Yen Bai province is entering the peak of the dry season with prolonged high temperatures, the vegetation layer on some forest areas is very thick, so the risk of fires is very high. Moreover, in the commune, people still have the habit of clearing and burning to make fields, so there are also many potential risks of causing forest fires."
Ban Mu Commune has nearly 100% Mong ethnic people living there, so to raise awareness and perception among the people, the Ban Mu Commune Police force has also compiled documents in ethnic languages, propaganda leaflets with visual images, easy to understand, easy to remember so that people can grasp and strictly implement them to minimize the risks and conditions for forest fires.
Thanks to that, up to now, 100% of people in the commune have voluntarily signed a commitment to implement measures to ensure forest fire prevention and fighting during the dry season.
Mr. Giang A Trang - Chairman of Ban Mu Commune People's Committee informed: "Along with propaganda to each household, organizing people to sign a commitment to protect forests and prevent and fight forest fires, the commune has also established a Steering Committee for forest fire prevention and control, a Steering Committee for forestry development of the commune to send to villages and hamlets for propaganda. In each village, there is also a forest protection management team that regularly patrols the area that has been contracted with the forest management board. We focus most on the months of March, April, and May, which are the times when forest fires are most likely to occur."
Along with promoting propaganda, Ban Mu Commune Police also regularly coordinate with functional forces to organize forest protection patrols, promptly detect and strictly handle violations. Therefore, since the beginning of the year, there have been no forest fires in Ban Mu Commune, and people's awareness and compliance have also been increasingly improved.
Ms. Lau Thi My, Mu Thap village, Ban Mu commune, Tram Tau district said: "Commune police officers often come to propagate so I know not to burn fields or light fires in the forest because it is very easy to cause forest fires. Everyone must protect the forest, when a fire occurs, it must be reported immediately to the police and authorities for handling."
In the coming time, Ban Mu Commune Police will continue to coordinate with the commune government, departments, branches and organizations to hold meetings with households to continue to propagate forest fire prevention and control. Along with that, coordinate with the forest rangers and the Forest Management Board to step up patrolling and forest protection, and strictly handle violations to create deterrence and minimize the risks and conditions for forest fires.
Yen Bai province currently has a forest coverage of 63%. Forests are not only the "green lungs" that regulate the climate but also an important source of livelihood for tens of thousands of households. Faced with the increasingly present risk of forest fires, the proactiveness of the entire political system along with the sense of responsibility of each individual will be the decisive factor in protecting the safety of forests, as well as the lives and property of the entire community. |
