'My boyfriend is in America, we have never met since we started dating'

After nearly 2 years of breaking up with Kieu Minh Tuan, Cat Phuong announced that she has a new lover. In a conversation with VTC News , the actress confided that she is open to accepting this love comfortably, as long as both of them feel happy every day and do not need to put too much emphasis on future matters.

- The audience was surprised when Cat Phuong publicly announced her new boyfriend. It seems like you have great faith in this relationship?

For me, every day I live happily and joyfully is precious. I enjoy happiness as long as it lasts. I don’t expect it to last long because nothing in this life lasts forever. However, life is wonderful, sometimes long-distance love can last forever (laughs).

- Does that mean you're not afraid of long distance relationships?

My boyfriend is currently living in the US. At first, he hid it, but after we became close, he shared everything with me. I will not reveal his age and job. He does not use social media, so we only talk on the phone.

We video call each other every day. He asks me where I am, what I am doing, all the time. But he says he doesn’t want to control me, he just asks to ease my worries.

Since they fell in love, they have never met each other in real life because he has not had the chance to come here.

He said he had been following me for decades, but I had never met him in person.

For me, long distance love is not a challenge, but sometimes close love is more difficult. At first, I just thought of talking to him as close friends. However, when he proposed to me, he gave me many things to make me trust him. He showed me his divorce papers and pictures of his two children. Now his two children are grown up and living on their own. It is this honesty that makes me feel more secure.

- What is it about this man that makes your heart open again?

That person cares and no one has ever asked me so much. He wants me to be the first one to read his messages when I wake up. So every morning when I wake up, I receive a "have a nice day" message from him. He said he wants to give me warmth when we are in a long distance relationship. Sometimes I am so busy with work that I forget to eat, he is also the one who reminds me at every meal. This makes me moved.

Since he has been a fan for a long time, he also knows that I am forgetful. That is why he always calls me to remind me every day. Every time I come home from work, he will call me to talk while I drive to avoid falling asleep. When I am home safely, he will turn off the phone to let me rest. Even though we are in different time zones, he still stays up to call me every day. I am touched because no one has ever treated me like that before. I feel protected and sheltered even though we are in a long-distance relationship. That is the reason why I decided to open my heart.

He told me that he once followed me to watch 14 of my shows in one night. Wherever Cat Phuong performed, he would buy tickets to go see. He said that at first it was just admiration, then gradually he felt affection. When I got married, he still followed me. He told me that when I divorced my husband, a year later his marriage also broke down. I jokingly asked, "Does my divorce have anything to do with you?", but he said it had nothing to do with me. Sharing many things in life made the feelings between the two of them arise without realizing it.

- You said you were hurt in your past relationships. So before entering this new relationship, were you afraid of anything?

I don’t worry because I have nothing left to lose. When I love someone, I will love with all my heart like I have never loved before. Sometimes I also think about the most negative things like that person will leave me. If they do leave me, I won’t feel sad or shocked because I have thought about these situations before.

- If love continues to flourish, will Cat Phuong have a wedding one day?

I jokingly told him: "When I was 30, I had a dream of organizing a big show but I couldn't do it because I didn't have money. When I was 60, I would have a big birthday party at all costs." He told me that we were getting married at that time. At that time, I said, "Let's go, getting married will be a failure" (laughs). He told me not to think negative things, as long as I was happy and not bothered, that was fine. I asked him if he would be sad if we didn't go public, he said no because "if you're sad, I'm sad, if you're not sad, I'm not sad."

I also haven't mentioned wanting him to come here to live with me because they still have work, I can't force him. Now flying from the US to Vietnam is very convenient, only takes about 2 days. I think that's okay so I don't force him.

The actress has not thought about getting married because she wants to let things be natural.

- You don't want to get married but what if one day he takes the initiative to propose?

If he wants to marry me, he will give me a diamond ring and then we will live together without getting married (laughs). I will not get married. I say that but I believe this very much. If I wear a wedding dress, everything will fall apart. I told him to let things be natural because it is impossible to plan ahead.

- Bom - how did your son react when you had a new boyfriend?

My son is grown up and very understanding. Bom told me that "I just hope this is a man who truly loves his mother and will be with her for the rest of her life." My boyfriend also asked for Bom's phone number to talk. However, both of them are quiet, so we haven't been able to say much. Bom said that he texted to ask about her studies and to remind her to eat well. He also told me that Bom is very obedient and polite.

Bom, though quiet, observes his mother very closely. When I am not sleeping, Bom knows right away just by looking at his mother's eyes. I am happy that my son is becoming more and more understanding.

There is a funny story that many people thought Bom was my new "young lover". I once took Bom to buy a suit, the staff in the shop even rumored that this was Cat Phuong's young lover (laughs).

- I heard that you will be launching a new art project soon. Aren't you afraid that the audience will say you are using tricks and using your love life to promote your project?

I affirm that I never use love affairs to promote products. If I wanted to attract attention, I would have made a program right after announcing my breakup with Kieu Minh Tuan last year. However, I only did it this year. Many people said that I "get into drama even when I breathe". I am grateful to those who love me, and those who hate me, I am also grateful. My life philosophy at this age is that I should not hate anyone.

I just want to make a program to give to the audience. Besides, Cat Phuong has been "hibernating" for too long. I hope the audience doesn't think I'm intentionally bringing up the love story to promote my project.

- After nearly 2 years of breaking up, perhaps the audience is still very curious about your relationship with Kieu Minh Tuan?

Kieu Minh Tuan and I still maintain a normal friendship. Although we don't talk to each other often, I still interact on his personal page from time to time. Tuan still asks about Bom. As for having a new lover, it's private so I think it would be a bit inappropriate to share.

For me, what is past will be past because I will not know how to hold grudges or hate anyone, or be angry with anyone. No matter how they stabbed me or treated me, everything is past. I always keep in mind that how I live with others is how they will treat me.

My life is now very happy as I continue to work and contribute to art. In addition, I also do online sales. I always have my son, my mother and now my new boyfriend by my side. Every day now passes peacefully and I just hope that no one will destroy this happiness. I hope I will live the last days of my life as peacefully as now (laughs).
