Stories of the Pioneers
“These soldiers will be at the forefront when the country and the people need them” - the quote of actor Kieu Minh Tuan in the official trailer of the program Brave Soldiers is a strong and emotional affirmation of the role of the People's Public Security Force (CAND). Thousands of calls, sirens, alarm bells in the middle of the night... urge the CAND soldiers to go on the road. They are ready to risk their lives, carry out unimaginable missions, face intense battles of wits and sometimes even accept sacrificing themselves in exchange for peace for society.
Brave Soldier is the first action-packed reality TV show about the People's Public Security Forces, aiming to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security Forces' Traditional Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the 20th anniversary of the National Day for National Security Protection (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2025). The special feature that makes the program attractive is the element of authenticity that is placed at the forefront. According to general director Mai Tham, based on real details, situations and stories, the crew has cleverly transformed them into simulated drills and combat situations. In the program, 14 artists experience the roles of two typical forces: fire prevention and fighting police, rescue police and mobile police. They will face harsh challenges: from intensive physical training, learning how to use modern equipment, to participating in "hot" missions such as hostage rescue, criminal capture... There is no information or script warning, all are genuine and natural reactions.
However, as the artists participating in the program commented, the hardships that the artists have to go through when transforming into police officers are just a very small slice. The reality is much harsher than that, because for police officers, they have to go through “thousands of days of training for a single second of reaction” and for them “peace does not come naturally”.
Try to overcome yourself
“This is the first time I have participated in a reality TV show where there is always an ambulance to support the artists” is what an artist said, reflecting the difficulties in the process of making Brave Soldier. That preparation was not redundant, when actor Song Luan almost gave up due to too much stress; rapper Binz (real name Le Nguyen Trung Dan) fainted during practice; singer Mono (Nguyen Viet Hoang) suffocated, had a sore throat in a role-playing situation, and was immediately taken out of the area.
However, overcoming the difficulties, the artists all commented that participating in the program was an honor. “Quynh thinks that if I am not here, I will definitely regret it later,” shared musician and singer Phan Manh Quynh. Singer and actor Ngo Kien Huy affirmed that “overcoming fear” is the greatest value he received after the program.
Director Mai Tham said that although artists are invited to the casting, it does not mean they are automatically accepted. If they do not meet the criteria set out before, they will not be allowed to participate in the program. "The first factor is to accept sacrificing time, health, appearance and have the desire to spread good values. Besides, they also have to ensure their health," shared director Mai Tham. She also added that, besides authenticity, one of the biggest challenges is how to make the program both serious and entertaining.
To ensure the authenticity of the program, about 200 officers and soldiers participated in supporting, the production team was up to 500 people with more than 70 cameras. This is also the first program to introduce modern equipment and weapons of the People's Public Security Forces, from weapons, armored vehicles to rescue robots, unmanned aerial vehicles...
“ The Ministry of Public Security hopes that the images that the artists show, along with the realistic footage of daily life and the outstanding achievements of the Public Security Forces, will touch the emotions and move the hearts of both the participating artists and the audience, creating an effect, spreading the values of truth, goodness and beauty, arousing national pride and a sense of social responsibility in the young generation,” said Major General Le Hong Hiep, Deputy Director of the Department of Political Work, Ministry of Public Security .
