Professor Tran Thanh Van - President of Rencontres du Vietnam, Director of ICISE, delivered an online speech emphasizing the important role of parliamentarians in shaping legal and ethical frameworks for AI. At the same time, he affirmed that ICISE is a prestigious center in Southeast Asia and East Asia, contributing with the IPU to promote scientific cooperation and science diplomacy globally.

According to Dr. Tran Thanh Son, this is the second edition of the IPU School of Science for Peace, following the success of the first edition with the theme of water held in Geneva in 2022 and the Science for Peace Conference: "Water security and insecurity - rebuilding peaceful coexistence with science", held at the ICISE Center Quy Nhon, Vietnam in 2023.

The success of the 2023 conference at ICISE has inspired the launch of a five-year plan called “Science for Peace”, supported by the KHGC Centre. The year 2025, dedicated to the theme of science and AI, includes three milestones: a spring school at SESAME, an autumn inter-parliamentary conference at ICISE, and a high-level event in Bahrain at the end of the year.

The first event, this year’s School of Science for Peace at SESAME, reflects the growing commitment of parliamentarians and parliamentary staff across the world to learn about AI, train themselves, and anticipate its impacts.

The second event, which will take the form of a dialogue and exchange forum between scientists and parliamentarians, will take place from September 9 to 12 at ICISE – a prestigious and recognized interdisciplinary science and education center, with more than 16,500 scientists from over 60 countries, including 18 Nobel laureates and hundreds of other renowned scientists.

Among them, the agenda focuses on exploring global frameworks and multilateral approaches to AI governance, theoretical and applied aspects of AI in parliamentary work, as well as the role of AI in promoting peaceful coexistence.

The aim is to equip participants with practical experience in integrating AI tools into parliamentary and governance practices. These tools will be applied directly during the event at SESAME so that attendees can experience them firsthand.

The IPU School of Science for Peace is part of the five-year “Science for Peace” plan, which aims to promote scientific cooperation for peaceful coexistence and provide a platform for dialogue between parliaments.

The International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), the Synchrotron Light Center for Scientific Research and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME) and the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence (KHGC) are three partners of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in organizing activities under the Science for Peace 2025-2030 program.
