Egyptian state media Al-Ahram reported.
A sandstorm accompanied by strong winds uprooted trees on major streets and destroyed four vehicles on Cairo's October Bridge. Roofs were ripped off in several areas of the capital, including Maadi.
Egyptian traffic officials have been working to restore traffic flow by removing the wreckage of a large billboard that collapsed on a highway in October, local media reported.
According to Al-Ahram, the sandstorm also caused widespread damage in the Western Desert, the Mediterranean coast, Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta and cities along the Suez Canal, extending as far as Upper Egypt.
Egyptian authorities closed two Suez Canal ports on June 1 due to severe weather in the Arab League's most populous country, where sandstorms are common in the spring.
To cope with the sandstorm, the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) advised people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight and wear face masks when outdoors, especially if they suffer from sinus or allergy-related health problems.
