Egyptian state media outlet Al-Ahram reported.
A sandstorm accompanied by strong winds uprooted trees on major streets and destroyed four vehicles on the October Bridge in Cairo. Roofs were ripped off in several areas of the capital, including Maadi.
Local media reported that Egyptian transport workers were working to restore traffic flow by removing the rubble of a large billboard that had collapsed on the October Highway.
According to Al-Ahram, the sandstorm also caused widespread damage in the Western Desert, the Mediterranean coast, Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, and cities along the Suez Canal, extending as far as Upper Egypt.
Egyptian authorities closed two ports on the Suez Canal on June 1st due to severe weather in the most populous country of the Arrab League, where sandstorms are common in the spring.
To cope with sandstorms, the Egyptian Meteorological Agency (EMA) advises people to avoid direct sunlight and wear masks when outdoors, especially if they suffer from sinusitis or allergy-related health problems.
