Journalism contributes to women's empowerment

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), on the morning of June 11, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union coordinated with the Vietnam Journalists Association to organize a national scientific conference with the theme "Women with 100 years of Vietnam Revolutionary Press".

In her opening speech, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen emphasized that the workshop is a scientific forum to analyze and clarify the role and mission of the press in the country's development, enhancing economic, political , cultural and social empowerment for women in the context of integration and digital transformation.

According to the President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union, since its founding by President Ho Chi Minh , over the past 100 years, the Vietnamese revolutionary press has always been a vanguard and effective propagandist force, making an important contribution to the cause of national liberation, construction and protection. In that process, the team of female journalists has not only fulfilled the glorious mission of revolutionary journalism, but also become a special media force in protecting the legitimate and legal rights of women, promoting gender equality and inspiring society about women's progress.

At the workshop, delegates discussed two main topics: “Vietnamese revolutionary press: 100 years of accompanying the women’s movement” and “Revolutionary press with the mission of women in the era of the Vietnamese nation’s rise”. In particular, delegates focused on analyzing the historical role of the press in promoting the women’s movement, from the resistance period to the period of renovation and integration.

In her speech on "Press with the work of the Vietnam Women's Union and the Vietnamese women's movement through the periods", Head of the Propaganda Department, Central Committee of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Kim Dung said that for women's work, the press is both a tool to convey information, promptly reflecting the thoughts, aspirations and important contributions of women in all fields, and an effective communication channel to raise awareness, arouse patriotism, sense of responsibility and promote the role and position of women.

Journalist Tran Thi Kim Hoa, former Director of the Vietnam Press Museum, commented: “The team of female journalists and the female press have not only fulfilled the glorious mission of revolutionary journalism, but also become a special media force in protecting the legitimate and legal rights of women, promoting gender equality and inspiring society about women's progress...”.

According to Dr. Nhi Le, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Communist Magazine, the press is not only a forum for women to speak their minds but also a forum to talk about women in a proactive, equal and democratic way; the press accompanies, encourages and acts together between the political system and the whole society with the Women's Union at all levels and the women's movement...

In addition, delegates also clarified the role of female journalism and female journalists in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, how the press can contribute to enhancing the image and role of Vietnamese women in international integration; how to promote the role of the press in encouraging, motivating and supporting women in the era of prosperous development of the Vietnamese nation.
