- Madam, what are the new points in the rules of the "Press Writing Contest on Environmental Protection of the Industry and Trade Sector" in 2025 compared to previous years, especially in encouraging creative works that are consistent with the trend of sustainable development and green economy ?

Ms. Do Phuong Dung: First of all, I must say that the "Press Writing Contest on Environmental Protection in the Industry and Trade Sector" is an extremely meaningful contest not only for the Industry and Trade sector but also arouses the responsibility of environmental protection of the whole society. The 2025 contest has many innovations compared to 2023 such as encouraging works that are creative and consistent with the trend of sustainable development and green economy.

Compared to 2023, this year, the rules have been expanded to attract a diverse audience, including professional and non-professional journalists, contributors and experts. The important new point is that we have added two special awards specifically for researchers and experts who do not work in the field of journalism, ensuring fairness and encouraging in-depth articles.

The scoring criteria have also been updated, emphasizing creativity, the ability to guide public opinion and propose practical solutions, in line with Vietnam's commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, in the spirit of COP26.

Along with that, we will classify by field for scoring such as heavy industry, processing industry, minerals, waste, environmental protection production models... So this year's award is not only rich in form of expression but also ensures quality and spreading meaning.

After 2 times of organization, what specific achievements has the contest achieved in spreading the message of green development and raising awareness of businesses and people about environmental protection in the Industry and Trade sector?

Ms. Do Phuong Dung: Organizing the "Press Writing Contest on Environmental Protection in the Industry and Trade Sector" in 2016 and 2023 to spread the message of environmental protection throughout the Industry and Trade sector, we received more than thousands of works, with more than 200 winning works. After 2 times of organization, the works have strongly conveyed the message of "not trading the environment for economic growth", arousing the responsibility to protect the environment in the whole society.

In terms of impact, the contest has raised awareness among businesses and people. Through the articles, many businesses in the industry and trade sector have applied clean technology, reduced plastic bags, treated wastewater and recycled thermal power ash in production. People have also changed their consumption habits, prioritizing environmentally friendly products.

It is undeniable that the press has played a bridging role, not only spreading messages but also calling for specific actions from businesses and the community, thereby promoting a sense of responsibility towards the environment and contributing to building a sustainable industry and trade sector.

Accordingly, organizing the contest is an opportunity for us to express our gratitude and appreciation for the role of each journalist in environmental protection, each of their works is a message, a lesson, an extremely strong spread for a green environment. Therefore, this is an extremely meaningful contest not only for the Ministry of Industry and Trade but also for the whole society.

Contribute to building a green and sustainable industry

- Can you share about the quality and diversity of the entries over the years, especially how the works reflect new environmental challenges such as clean energy transition or industrial waste management...?

Ms. Do Phuong Dung: The quality and diversity of the entries have been increasingly improved, reflecting the sensitivity of the press in approaching new environmental issues. If the first periods focused on “hot spots” such as air pollution or industrial wastewater, then from 2023, the entries have delved into modern challenges such as clean energy transition, circular economy, and industrial waste management.

Each time, from hundreds of works, only a few dozen make it to the final round, and selecting the outstanding works is truly a big challenge for the Jury, because the quality is very even and diverse.

I think that each of us, especially journalists, share the same thoughts and desires to live in an environment free of pollution and waste. As I said, the number of articles we received over the years has been very diverse in terms of genre, form and content, the hot environmental issues have been raised by journalists, the current status of the problems affecting the environment, solutions for clean energy conversion or industrial waste management, where it has been done, done well and where it has not been done, there are praises and criticisms.

Therefore, in 2025, we will innovate the classification of articles by field for judging. Each winning article will be the most outstanding and highest quality article in each field of the Industry and Trade sector.

Under the chairmanship of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Industry and Trade Newspaper organized the launching ceremony of the "Press Writing Contest on Environmental Protection in the Industry and Trade Sector" in 2025.

- How has the contest impacted the proactive role of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in leading public opinion, promoting the implementation of environmental protection policies and encouraging businesses to apply clean technology and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2050?

Ms. Do Phuong Dung: The Ministry of Industry and Trade has proactively organized the contest as a strategic tool to guide public opinion and promote the implementation of environmental protection policies, such as Decision 1375/QD-TTg in 2020 on the Environmental Protection Plan of the Industry and Trade sector and Decree 08/2022/ND-CP on the development of the environmental industry.

The entries have oriented public opinion on urgent issues such as emission control, solid waste management, and climate change response, creating social pressure for businesses to invest in clean technology.

For example, according to a report by the Department of Industrial Safety and Environment, articles on thermal power ash treatment have encouraged many thermal power plants to apply exhaust gas treatment technology. Many enterprises have pioneered the use of renewable energy and by-product recycling, thereby creating momentum for other enterprises.

Accordingly, the competition not only spreads policies but also encourages businesses to make commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aiming for net zero emissions by 2050, in line with COP26.

- As a coordinating organizer, how does the Department of Industrial Safety Techniques and Environment expect the 2025 competition to contribute to spreading environmental protection models and initiatives and promoting digital transformation and circular economy in the Industry and Trade sector?

Ms. Do Phuong Dung: To organize the "Press Writing Contest on Environmental Protection of the Industry and Trade Sector", we must really thank the Industry and Trade Newspaper for its coordination, companionship and being the organizing unit with us. The newspaper is not only an active unit in implementing a series of annual articles on environmental protection of the industry, but also an experienced unit in organizing awards.

Nothing can spread faster than the media. When you let them see how the environment affects them, they will form awareness, and from awareness will lead to specific actions. That is our wish for this award.
