"If PSG had previously hoped to renew Lionel Messi's contract, the decision to suspend the player for two weeks because El Pulga went to Saudi Arabia without permission has certainly marked the end of Messi's time with the Parisian capital team," French newspaper L'Equipe declared in the article "PSG punishes Messi to set an example" published on May 3.

Previously, PSG imposed a heavy penalty after the Argentine star's undisciplined behavior. Accordingly, on May 1, Messi traveled to Riyadh with his family under a commercial agreement with Saudi Arabia. Messi's trip took place less than a day after PSG's humiliating 1-3 defeat to Lorient right at home at the Parc des Princes.
The French team considered Messi's trip a "serious error" that occurred during the season and decided to suspend the 36-year-old striker for two weeks as well as deduct his entire salary during the said period.
Reputable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that PSG suspended Messi for 2 weeks, after the Argentine star traveled to Saudi Arabia without the club's approval. However, Messi's side has not received an official disciplinary notice from the club up to this point.

French media unanimously believe that PSG's disciplinary action against Messi will force the Argentine star to leave Parc des Princes this summer.
"Because of his trip to Saudi Arabia without PSG's permission, Lionel Messi has been suspended from training and playing for two weeks by the team's leadership. It is the first step towards a rift between the Argentine star and the Parisian capital team," Leparisien newspaper announced.
In Ligue 1 this season, Messi has scored 15 goals and provided 15 assists in 28 matches. His contract expires at the end of the season. With a two-week suspension, Messi may have to wait until the Ligue 1 match against Auxerre in round 36. Leparisien has now confirmed that PSG will not sign a new contract with the Argentine player, although Messi's team is still trying to negotiate.
