Storm No. 12: Da Nang establishes 3 regional forward command posts

On October 22, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Tran Nam Hung said that to respond to storm No. 12, the city has established 3 forward command committees in the western mountainous area, the southern area and the city center, directly commanded by 3 Vice Chairmen of the City People's Committee.

In addition, Da Nang city has proactively activated all natural disaster prevention and control plans since the meeting on the afternoon of October 20. Mr. Tran Nam Hung said that this storm has the risk of causing heavy rain and flooding in urban areas, the risk of landslides in mountainous areas is very high. To cope with the risk of flooding, the regulation of more than 120 reservoirs in the area has been completed, ensuring low water levels according to the scenario, proactively cutting floods when necessary. Da Nang city has also announced that all students will be off school to ensure safety.

Learning from previous floods, large rescue boats could not enter some areas, the city has checked and prepared about 50 small boats, along with hundreds of rescue vehicles and tools mobilized from the people; more than 1,000 life jackets were distributed to deeply flooded areas. All rescue forces will be on duty from the afternoon of October 22 and will be there as soon as they receive information that people need support.

In addition, the city has also advised people to proactively stock up on enough food for 3 days, place furniture high and protect their property. Localities have checked, counted and are carrying out the evacuation of people in high-risk areas, all these households will be relocated to a safe place before 5:00 p.m. on October 22.

Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Tran Nam Hung affirmed that, up to now, Da Nang has been fully prepared to respond to storm No. 12, especially situations of heavy rain, floods and landslides.

Also on the morning of October 22, Da Nang City Police held an online meeting with all police stations in communes and wards to deploy responses to storm No. 12. Lieutenant Colonel Tran Minh Nguyen, Deputy Director of Da Nang City Police, directed the Chiefs of Police of units and localities to absolutely not be subjective or negligent in the face of the developments of storm No. 12; proactively organize appropriate and effective disaster response plans for each locality, especially areas and localities at risk of landslides and flooding and where landslides and flooding have occurred before.

The Deputy Director of Da Nang City Police also requested the Police of island and mountainous communes to proactively mobilize forces and be on standby to ensure the implementation of tasks when required; not to let the situation of insufficient forces or no forces participating in storm response happen due to the area being divided, officers and soldiers cannot move to perform tasks.

According to statistics, in Da Nang city, there are 31 communes and wards at risk of flash floods and landslides (Hai Van, Tra My, Tra Lien, Que Son, Nui Thanh...) and 27 communes and wards at risk of serious flooding (Hoi An Dong, Hoa Cuong, Tam Ky, Ban Thach, Dien Ban, Vu Gia...).
