Xinhua News Agency reported that on the morning of April 14, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping arrived in Hanoi, beginning a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and President Luong Cuong.
According to Xinhua News Agency and China Daily, after arriving at Noi Bai International Airport, General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping sent a message expressing his joy at the start of his fourth state visit to Vietnam, and sent his greetings and best wishes to the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Government and people of Vietnam.
In this message, Mr. Xi Jinping also said that China is willing to cooperate with Vietnam to conduct deeper cooperation at a higher level, covering more areas, to bring more benefits to the people of the two countries, the region and the world.
On this occasion, China Daily also published an editorial on the friendly and cooperative relationship between Vietnam and China.
According to the article, bilateral trade between Vietnam and China has made significant progress in recent years. Vietnam has maintained its position as China's largest trading partner in ASEAN and by 2024, it will become China's fourth largest trading partner. In contrast, China is Vietnam's largest trading partner, largest import market and second largest export market.
The volume of trade between the two countries is growing rapidly, with a positive shift in the structure of traded goods. This shift towards more diversified exports and imports allows both sides to effectively exploit their comparative advantages.
Vietnam's exports to China are shifting from raw and semi-processed goods to processed industrial products, showing a shift towards higher value-added exports.
Meanwhile, the quality of Vietnam's export goods is increasingly improved through the high rate of technology investment and intellectual content based on technology investment, taking advantage of favorable market and price opportunities to increase export value.
Regarding investment, in recent years, Chinese enterprises' investment capital in Vietnam has increased rapidly. In 2024, China invested 4.7 billion USD in Vietnam, ranking 3rd among the largest investors in Vietnam. As of December 2024, China ranked 6th out of 149 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 5,111 projects, total registered capital of over 30.8 billion USD.
2025 marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year. According to China Daily, on this occasion, the two sides can take advantage of the opportunity to strengthen cooperation in many fields such as tourism, science and technology, education, communications, etc.
Global Times quoted Mr. Gu Xiaosong, Director of the Institute of ASEAN Studies at Hainan Tropical Ocean University (China), saying that Vietnam is the first destination of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping's state visit this year. That shows that China attaches great importance to its relationship with Vietnam.
Mr. Xu Liping, Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, also commented that the prospects for cooperation in areas such as infrastructure connectivity, agricultural trade, digital economy and green economy, as well as people-to-people exchange and education are all open, contributing to creating a new highlight in substantive cooperation between Vietnam and China.
In particular, as the two countries move towards building a community with a common future, the two sides continue to enhance friendly exchanges between the youth of the two countries through specific activities to build and maintain long-term friendship, because the future belongs to the young generation.
