Accordingly, despite Berlin's stance towards Moscow and its decision to cut off energy ties with Russia, the aforementioned German insurance companies have resumed insurance for the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
Reuters , citing sources familiar with the matter, said the German government has no objection to the move. Insurance will cover damage to the pipeline, as well as issues related to its decommissioning.
One of the main benefits of insurance is to facilitate the repair work needed to continue supplying gas to Europe.
The decision by German insurers to extend insurance coverage for the Nord Stream pipeline project has caused public outcry in the country.
Many politicians and activists have spoken out against the move by German businesses, pointing out the need to adhere to the common stance of the European Union (EU) towards Russia and strengthen the solidarity of the bloc's member states.
Commenting on this issue, in an interview with Sputnik , industrial expert, PhD. of economics Leonid Khazanov said that the fact that German companies restored gas pipeline insurance shows Germany's interest in the "Nord Stream".
Dr. Khazanov commented: "This is proof of Germany's economic interests in resuming work on Nord Stream.
